Fungsi Persneling Mobil Matic dan Artinya, Yuk Ketahui

Although automatic cars have become very popular in recent years, not all users understand the function of the automatic car transmission. In fact, many are still confused about the meaning of the codes found on the automatic car transmission. For those of you who are still confused, you need to pay attention to the review below.

Function of Automatic Car Transmission

The transmission in an automatic car has an important function in the operation of the vehicle. Its functions are diverse, ranging from helping the driver park the car, assisting the driver in controlling the car's speed so that the resulting speed is accurate, helping the driver tackle inclines or declines, to helping the driver neutralize the gear position when the car is about to stop.

Meaning of Transmission in Automatic Cars

As is known, automatic cars operate differently from manual cars. In a manual car, when changing gears, the driver must press the clutch while shifting the gear lever

Whereas to change gears in an automatic car, the driver only needs to move the gear lever according to the codes displayed. Each of these codes has its own meaning and function. Therefore, automatic car drivers must understand the meaning of these codes. The complete meanings are as follows.

1. Code “P” or Parking

The letter P code on the car transmission can be interpreted as the parking code. If the driver shifts the gear lever to the “P” position, the car's transmission system will automatically lock, preventing the car from moving. This mode is usually used for parking the car or leaving the car for a moment.

2. Code “R” or Reverse

The letter “R” code means reverse. This mode is typically used by drivers to back up the car.

3. Code “N” or Neutral

The letter “N” code on the automatic car transmission can be interpreted as the neutral code. This mode is usually used in traffic jams, waiting for a red light to finish, or stopping at a place for a considerable amount of time. When the driver uses this mode, the car is stationary but not locked like when using the parking mode. In neutral mode, the car can still move.

4. Code “D” or Drive

The “D” code can be interpreted as drive or moving forward. This mode is typically used by drivers when they want to drive the car. When this mode is used, the transmission system will automatically manage the gear shifts from 1 to the highest gear, allowing the driver to only control the accelerator and brake.

5. Code “2/S” or Second

The “2/S” code indicates that the maximum gear shift limit is only at gear 2. This mode is usually used to navigate through mountain roads with not too steep inclines.

6. Code “1/L” or Low

This code means low. When the driver uses this mode, the car is in gear 1, making it suitable for climbing inclines.

7. Code “O/D” or Overdrive

The “O/D” code can be interpreted as overdrive. This mode is usually used for overtaking other vehicles as it can increase the car's speed.

8. Code “+/-”

This code can be interpreted as adding or reducing the car's gears. When this mode is activated, the car's transmission can be used like a manual transmission.

9. Code “Shift Lock”

This code can be interpreted as a key unlocker. This mode is usually used to change the parking position to neutral.
