Daihatsu Charade is a car that appeared in Indonesia in the late 1970s. This car lasted quite a long time until the 1990s and has produced various variants. Although it is considered quite old, the Daihatsu Charade still has an appeal for some people. The history and specifications of classic cars are certainly what attract collectors.
The first car sold was the Daihatsu Charade G10. This car has a slightly boxy sedan-like shape and does not have a tail at the back (hatchback). As an elder or ancestor of hatchbacks in Indonesia, this car indeed still lacks many features inside. The trunk of this car is located right behind the passenger seat and is considered very small.
The Daihatsu Charade series marketed in Indonesia is also slightly different. This car comes in a 4-door passenger version and one trunk door. The same variant marketed in other Asian countries has two passenger doors and one trunk.
In 1981, Daihatsu slightly changed its appearance and gave it the code Charade G20. The body of the Charade is considered a bit more boxy compared to its predecessor. In addition, the headlights were also made boxy by Daihatsu. However, the engine used by these two car variants remains the same with a capacity of 993 cc. In its time, this car had good power for speeding or climbing hills with all passenger seats fully occupied.
Daihatsu Charade of the 80s and 90s
The second generation of the Daihatsu Charade appeared two years after the G20 series. This next variant has a more boxy, chubby body, but still retains the characteristic compactness of the Charade. In addition, there are various other different appearances.
The air intake or grille of this car is made larger with a shape resembling a honeycomb. The sweeter boxy headlights also become the main illumination when on the road. In 1985, this variant appeared in a facelift version with an elongated grille shape and sweeter trapezoidal-shaped lights.
This car variant is finally known as the Daihatsu Charade CS. This variant is the most sought after by collectors. This is because the Daihatsu Charade CS has a standard version using the CB23 engine and a turbo variant with the CB60 turbo code.
The two engines actually have a SOHC 6 valve configuration. However, there is a significant difference in performance. The turbo variant has a power of 68 Ps at 5500 rpm, allowing it to run faster. In addition, the transmission brought by the turbo variant is also 5-speed.
