This is the Cause of the Car Engine Stalling When Pressing the Clutch

One of the issues with cars that have a manual transmission is related to the clutch. When the clutch is released or pressed, either can cause the car's engine to stall and panic the driver. There are two things related to the clutch that can cause the car's engine to stall.

First, when the clutch pedal is released, the mistake can be said to be purely on the driver who does not balance the gas and clutch pedals correctly. However, if the car's engine stalls when pressing the clutch, it is a sign that the clutch is having problems.

This can happen when the car maintenance, especially the clutch, is not done optimally. Most car users do not realize that the car clutch is having issues. Because the symptoms are only felt when the car's engine works harder, for example, on inclines or downhill roads.

There are at least 4 causes of the car's engine stalling when the clutch pedal is pressed. What are they? Let's take a look at the complete review below.

1. Broken gear shift cable

The gear shift is a driving component that connects the engine power through the transmission shift. When there is a damaged component such as a broken cable, its performance can be disrupted.

A broken gear shift cable causes a drop in RPM or even stalls when the clutch is pressed. If such a problem is found, immediately contact your trusted workshop for repairs.

2. Dirty carburetor

The cause of the car's engine stalling when the clutch is pressed could be due to dirt accumulating in the carburetor. If left too long, the dirt can crust and interfere with the function of the carburetor itself.

As we know, the carburetor functions as a regulator of the air pressure in the combustion chamber. If the carburetor is clogged, it can disrupt the engine's performance and cause it to stall.

To keep the carburetor functioning well, clean the carburetor along with its air flow hose to avoid air supply blockages.

3. Worn clutch pads

A decrease in car performance to the point of having no power at all can be caused by worn clutch pads. Worn clutch pads prevent the car's power from being transmitted to move the wheels, causing the engine to roar, slow down, and suddenly stall.

To determine if the clutch pads are starting to wear, various symptoms can be experienced. Such as weakened car acceleration, a rattling or rumbling sound when the clutch is pressed, hard gear shifts, and even the smell of burning like something is on fire.

If several of these conditions are felt, immediately replace the clutch pads with new ones to prevent damage to other engine components.

4. Problematic air flow sensor

The function of the air flow in the car's injection system is to measure and deliver air to the engine compartment. A problematic air flow can cause the car's RPM to drop or even stall when pressing, releasing, or stepping on the gas pedal.

Other signs that the air flow is problematic include the engine feeling shaky, the idle feeling rough, and exhaust smoke emitting sparks that can irritate the eyes.

If these signs appear, immediately take the car to a workshop to replace the damaged air flow sensor.

In an emergency, if the car's engine stalls when the clutch is pressed, immediately pull over to the shoulder of the road. Then turn off the engine, position the gear to neutral, activate the handbrake, and restart the engine. Pay attention to any symptoms that arise. If it can still move, take it to the nearest workshop immediately.

It is important to remember that a car's engine stalling when pressing the clutch is very dangerous. This condition can cause the vehicle's speed to become uncontrollable. To avoid this, perform regular car maintenance to prevent unwanted incidents from occurring.
