The coil is a component in the car that is useful for increasing the electrical voltage in large amounts, which is then directed towards the battery. With the coil, the voltage from the battery, which is initially only 12 volts, can reach thousands of volts.
This high voltage will then flow to the spark plugs. The electrical current will produce the spark.
However, if the coil is too hot, it can burn out and catch fire. Thus, the electrical current cannot be properly delivered to the battery or spark plugs, resulting in the car not being able to start.
