Jenis-Jenis Freon AC pada Mobil yang Wajib Kamu Tahu

Recognizing the various types of AC freon in cars is an important thing that must be known. The success of the AC function in cooling the car cabin also depends on the freon. A well-functioning AC can provide you with comfort when driving in the summer. Without further ado, let's get to know the various types of AC freon as follows.

Types of AC Freon in Cars That Must Be Known

AC freon is a special liquid substance used in the car cooling system. This substance is used as a heat absorber, so the car cabin can feel cool and refreshing. AC freon itself is divided into several types. Here are the types.

1. Type R-12

The first type is R-12. This AC freon has not been used since the early 2000s. The cessation of the use of freon R-12 is not without reason.

This freon is banned because it can accelerate the global warming process as it can damage the earth's ozone layer. This freon indeed contains CFC (Chloro Fluoro Carbon) elements as it comes from methane and ethane compounds.

Therefore, global warming observers around the world prohibit the use of this freon. Freon R-12 has several characteristics as follows.

  • Non-toxic.
  • Does not cause corrosion.
  • Stable even when used at high or low temperatures.
  • Boiling point is at 29.8 degrees Celsius when the pressure reaches 1 atm.
  • Has a condensation pressure of 93.3 psi when the temperature reaches 30 degrees Celsius.
  • Has a condensation pressure of 11.8 psi when the temperature reaches 15 degrees Celsius.
  • Its dielectric function is quite high.
  • Colorless.
  • Difficult to ignite.

2. Hydrocarbon Type

The second type of freon is hydrocarbon, which is considered an anti-global warming freon. This freon is made from carbon compounds and natural hydrogen compounds. These compounds have been researched and proven not to damage the ozone layer. This freon has special characteristics as follows.

  • Its content is considered flammable, so special equipment needs to be installed for the freon to function.
  • Environmentally friendly as it prevents the acceleration of global warming.

3. Type R-22

The third type is R-22. This freon can be considered a replacement for the first type of freon, namely freon R-12. The R-22 type freon is also known to damage the ozone layer, but the impact is not as great as that of type R-12.

Freon R-22 is made from chlorine compounds, so it is often referred to as HCFC (Hydro Chloro Fluoro Carbon) type freon. This freon has characteristics as follows.

  • Dielectric capability is quite large.
  • Easily absorbs water.
  • Non-corrosive.
  • At 1 atm pressure, the boiling point of freon R-22 can reach 40 degrees Celsius.
  • At 15 degrees Celsius, it can produce a condensation pressure of 23.8 psi.
  • At 30 degrees Celsius, it can produce a condensation pressure of 158.2 psi.

4. Type R-134A

The fourth type is R-134A, which belongs to the HFC (Hydrocarbon) group that is considered not to damage the ozone layer. Given its relatively safe nature, this type of freon is widely used by car manufacturers as the standard car AC freon. This freon has characteristics as follows.

  • Critical pressure of 4060 Kpa when the temperature reaches 101 degrees Celsius.
  • Non-corrosive.
  • The chemical elements and structure within it are very stable.
  • At 1 atm pressure, this freon produces a boiling point of 26.1 degrees Celsius.
  • When the temperature reaches 25 degrees Celsius, it produces a vapor pressure of 668 Kpa.

Thus, here are some types of car AC freon that need to be known, so you can directly contribute to the prevention of global warming.
