Types of Car Light Sockets and Their Functions, Let's Understand!
Knowing the types of car light sockets and their functions is very important. By understanding these types and functions, you can have many options for car lighting.
Lighting in a car is very important for maintaining comfort and safety while traveling, especially in dark road conditions. Instead of being curious, let's take a look at the following review.
Types of Car Light Sockets and Their Functions
Here are some types of car light sockets that you must know.
1. H4 Light Socket
The H4 type light socket can be used in cars like Daihatsu Sigra, whether LED (Light Emitting Diodes), halogen, or HID (High Intensity Discharge).
This type of socket is the most commonly used socket in cars in Indonesia. The function of this light socket is to house the H4 bulb, which serves as a headlight or high beam.
This light usually has the characteristic of having two filaments. The first filament has a reflector that functions to direct the light downwards from the glowing wire.
Then the reflector reflects the light upwards. Meanwhile, the other filament glows in all directions according to the reflector's socket settings, allowing the light to project up to 4 to 8 meters.
Typically, the H4 socket is equipped with three flat plates shaped like the letter “U”. The first plate serves as the ground. Meanwhile, the second and third plates function to provide voltage to each light filament.
Usually, H4 bulbs have an ideal power of 45/55W, 90/100W, or 130/100W. With this power, drivers can drive in dark areas such as mountainous regions and avoid the risk of accidents due to dark roads.
2. H11 Light Socket
The H11 type light socket serves as the housing or seat for the H11 bulb, which is better known as a fog lamp.
Given the crucial role of the H11 bulb, this socket is made from heat-resistant and strong materials such as high-quality copper and aluminum. Because this bulb has a fairly high power of 55W, it generates a significant amount of heat.
On the other hand, this type of light can shine very brightly even in heavy rain or thick fog. The H11 light socket can produce an estimated light output of 18W or 1,350 lumens, with the conversion of 75 lumens = 1W. The H11 light socket is usually used for cars like Daihatsu Xenia.
3. H16 Light Socket
The H16 type light socket actually has a function similar to the H11 light socket, which is intended for fog lamps. However, the difference is only in power and voltage.
This type of socket uses lower power and voltage, which is 19W or 12 Volts. When used, it produces an estimated power equivalent to 6W with the conversion of each 1W equal to 75 lumens.
The light output produced is 500 lumens. Its lower power compared to the H11 socket makes this socket made from mica material. This light is usually used for cars like Daihatsu Xenia, Daihatsu Sigra, and Daihatsu Ayla.
Those are some types of car light sockets that you must know. If you are interested in replacing or using a light socket for your car, it is best to visit the nearest Daihatsu dealer or authorized workshop to get a light socket from a reputable brand, the right type and size for installation, with a warranty, and proper installation process.
