The problem of cracked car windows is very common, for example due to falling fruit. However, if the car does not have insurance, how can it be repaired? Don't worry, check out the following ways to repair a cracked car window!
How to Repair a Cracked Car Window
Don't worry if you experience this condition, here are some ways that can be done at home to repair a cracked car window.
Clean the Glass
The first step that can be taken as a start is to remove the window film and then clean the area of the glass that has cracks (car glass coating). The purpose of this cleaning is to remove any remaining dust, dirt, and crack splinters.
The way is to rinse the glass with enough water and then wipe the glass with a clean cloth, wait a moment until the glass is completely dry. The reason is that a clean glass condition can make it easier for you to carry out the next steps to repair the glass crack.
Drill the Glass
After the glass is clean, prepare a drill to make a hole in the glass. This drill can be found at hardware stores and is generally priced around IDR 1 million depending on the brand, and it usually comes with a drill bit.
Drill the glass sufficiently in the area that has cracks. Avoid drilling too deep, so as not to worsen the damage.
Insert Resin
If the drilling process is successful, the next step is to insert resin or glass adhesive into the area that has cracks. Some products often sell tools for inserting resin, which will make the process easier.
However, if it does not include a tool for inserting resin, it can be purchased at a store for around IDR 100 thousand. Meanwhile, the price of resin ranges from IDR 100 thousand to IDR 200 thousand.
The method of inserting it requires high precision and patience. Slowly insert the resin into the cracked part of the car glass, and when the resin overflows, clean it immediately to avoid leaving marks.
Install New Window Film
After the resin has been inserted into the cracked glass, wait for about two hours for the resin to adhere perfectly. Next, level the resin liquid by replacing the window film with a new one.
The way is to clean the area where the resin was inserted first, then install the window film so that the repair results look more even and perfect.

Conditions of Cracked Car Windows That Can Still Be Repaired
It should be noted that not all conditions of cracked car windows can be repaired. Here are the conditions of cracked car windows that can still be repaired, among others:
Crack Position in the Middle of the Glass
If the crack position is in the middle of the glass and its depth is not significant, this condition can still be repaired. On the other hand, if the crack is located in the corner and extends to the middle, it is difficult to repair.
Short Cracks
A cracked glass can still be repaired if the crack condition is no longer than 10 inches. This is because if the crack is more than 10 inches, the strength of the glass becomes suboptimal even after repairs.
Crack Position Does Not Penetrate the Cabin Glass
If the crack is too deep and even penetrates the cabin glass, this condition cannot be repaired using the above method because it needs to be replaced with a new car window.
Crack Position Does Not Affect Sensors
Cars manufactured after 2010 generally already have sensors on the glass, such as temperature sensors, radio sensors, and other sensors. If the crack affects these sensors, then repairs must be done at an authorized workshop.
Repairing a cracked car window can indeed be done by yourself at home. However, if you are in doubt or do not have the tools, it is best to take the car to the nearest Daihatsu workshop.
