Vehicle Won't Move? Identify the Causes of Clutch Slippage in Cars Here

As a car owner, you will definitely use it wherever you go. The frequent use is what sometimes causes the vehicle to quickly experience damage, especially to the clutch. 

If the clutch is not maintained, the vehicle cannot be operated. Before this happens, it is advisable to pay attention to the following causes of clutch slipping.

1. Worn Clutch Pads 

Generally, the cause of a slipping car clutch is due to worn or depleted clutch pads. It is important to know that the pads play a role in transferring power from the engine to the transmission. 

The pads themselves are made from various materials, including ceramic, asbestos, resin mixtures, and other fibers. 

Over time, the friction with the clutch causes the pads to wear down. The wear that occurs will eventually lead to a decrease in power transmitted from the engine to the transmission. 

When the condition of the pads becomes severe, they will no longer be able to perform their function properly.

This causes the clutch to slip and the car will have difficulty shifting gears, making it unable to be driven, even though the engine can be started easily. 

One cause of wear is the lifespan that has been too long, for example, if they have never been replaced since the first purchase. Additionally, it could be due to improper vehicle use, such as an overloaded load.

2. Weak Clutch Spring

If the condition of the clutch spring becomes weaker, it is undeniable that it will cause the car clutch to slip. The clutch spring functions to press the pressure plate so that it can transmit the pressure force to the clutch pads. When the pads are pressed by the pressure plate, the power from the engine to the transmission can be transmitted.

However, if the clutch spring is weak, the pressure plate will not be able to press the pads. As a result, the vehicle will experience clutch slipping and the engine's rotational power cannot be transmitted properly. 

To address this cause of clutch slipping, it is advisable to take immediate action by bringing the car to an official service center.

3. Clutch Pedal Free Play Distance Too Close

As you may know, this free play distance is actually necessary to provide space to avoid slipping. When you set it too close, it will cause your beloved vehicle to be in a position that is already pressing. 

As a result, the pressure plate will be pulled back, causing the grip on the clutch pads to loosen.

Consequently, there will be strong friction between the clutch pads and components called flywheel and pressure plate. Thus, the clutch pads will become hotter and quickly experience slipping. 

If you do not want this situation to occur in your car, try not to set the free play distance too close.

4. Clutch Exposed to Oil

The clutch is usually located between the transmission and the car engine. Therefore, there is a high possibility that the clutch will often be exposed to oil. The type of clutch that is frequently used is the dry type. 

So when this part is exposed to a large amount of oil, it will cause the clutch to slip due to contamination from lubricating oil

Protecting and maintaining your beloved vehicle is indeed very necessary. This is to ensure that you can use it comfortably and safely. 

Especially regarding the clutch component, which has a vital role and function. If you do not regularly maintain the clutch, the car will quickly experience damage.
