Komponen Sistem Kemudi Mobil, Fungsi dan Cara Kerjanya

The car steering system can be said to be the most important system because it functions as the direction controller of the car's wheels. Therefore, you must understand the components of the car steering system, along with their functions and how they work.

This is important for you to understand, so you can get to know your car's steering system better and operate it well. Here is a complete review of the car steering system.

Components of the Car Steering System and Their Functions

What are the components found in the steering system? Before you learn about the components of the steering system, it is best to first understand the types of steering systems in cars.

1. Manual Steering System

The manual steering system is the first steering system used in all cars worldwide before the emergence of modern steering systems or power steering. You can find this type of steering system in older cars or cars from the past.

This steering system directly connects the front wheels of the car with the steering wheel so that the wheels move according to the direction controlled by the steering wheel.

However, the drawback of the manual steering system is that the driver needs to exert a lot of effort when controlling the steering wheel, which can easily lead to fatigue.

2. Modern Steering System

The modern steering system or power steering uses a pump as a connector between the wheel components and the steering wheel. This makes the steering system lighter to control.

After understanding the types of steering systems, here are some components of the steering system that you need to know along with their functions.

a. Steering Wheel

The steering wheel is the component that drives the front wheels of the car.

b. Steering Column

This component is located on the car body and functions as a conduit for power from the steering wheel to the steering gear.

In addition, this component has another function, which is to reduce the rotational energy of the steering wheel when the car is shaken or hit during an accident.

c. Steering Gear

This component is responsible for amplifying the steering torque from the steering wheel with the help of gear reduction.

d. Steering Linkage

This component functions as a conduit for power from the steering gear to the front wheels.

e. Ball Joint

The ball joint component  is shaped like a wheel and functions as a joint connecting components in the steering system.

f. Dust Boot

This component serves to protect the rack components from various dirt and dust. Additionally, this component can move following the movement of the rack shaft.

g. Tie-rod end

This component is responsible for moving the car wheels according to the steering control at the correct angle so that the wheels can turn perfectly.

h. Steering House

As the name suggests, this component serves as the housing for the steering wheel. The main function of this component is to facilitate the driver to move freely when controlling the steering wheel, making it easier for the driver to turn the wheels left or right.

How the Car Steering System Works

The mechanism of how the car steering system works can generally be said to be simple. The front wheels of the car will move following the direction of the steering wheel controlled by the driver's power. However, when viewed from the type of steering system, there are indeed differences.

For the manual steering system, the power transmitted by the steering wheel and the driver's power is directly transmitted to the front wheels of the car.

However, in the modern steering system or power steering, the power transmitted to the steering wheel and wheels is obtained from the assistance of a pump and the driver's power.

Thus is the complete review of the components of the car steering system, along with their functions and how they work.

Considering its crucial function, you should regularly check and maintain these components. You can have your car serviced at an official workshop or at the nearest Daihatsu dealer for the best handling.
