Why is the Parking Rate Increase in Jakarta Implemented?
The increase in parking rates in Jakarta is not without reason. The large number of vehicles in Jakarta is the main factor. As is known, every motor vehicle certainly produces exhaust emissions, which leads to increased air pollution. To curb the rise in air pollution, the DKI Jakarta provincial government conducts emission tests for motor vehicles. The implementation of these emission tests has been approved based on the DKI Jakarta Governor Regulation No. 66 of 2020.
The increase in parking rates (disincentive rates) is applied to motor vehicles that do not pass the emission test, especially four-wheeled vehicles. With the implementation of this regulation, the DKI Jakarta provincial government hopes that every motor vehicle operating in Jakarta has passed the emission test so that it does not pollute the environment. And for those who own vehicles that do not pass the emission test, it is advisable to use public transportation.
According to Ani Ruspitawati, spokesperson for the Air Pollution Control Task Force of the DKI provincial government, the implementation of disincentive parking rates will be applied in 131 parking locations managed by Perumda Pasar Jaya or Regional State-Owned Enterprises (BUMD) on October 1, 2023.
