Some car lovers modify their exhausts just to change the appearance and sound of the car to be more "aggressive" by replacing the standard exhaust with aftermarket products. Another reason for modifying the exhaust is to boost the car's performance.
Before modifying the car exhaust, it’s a good idea to understand and pay attention to the following tips so that the results meet your expectations.
1. Choose the right exhaust shape
It is important to pay attention to the exhaust that you want to replace. Consider the shape, size, and material so that the sound and performance of the car produced meet your desires.
2. Pay attention to the exhaust system
To boost the car's performance, you need to pay attention to the structure of the exhaust system. Several structures that should not be overlooked before modifying the exhaust include the exhaust header, exhaust pipe, resonator, and muffler.
Especially if the exhaust you want to replace is custom from your favorite workshop. All structures must be appropriate and precise so that nothing is lacking.
The configuration of car exhausts generally consists of 4-2-1 or 4-1. This means that exhaust gases from the engine block are channeled to four pipes, then to two pipes, and finally to one exhaust outlet .
While 4-1 means that the leftover combustion gases are channeled to four pipes and directly flow into one outlet.
3. Exhaust header
The exhaust header is part of the car's exhaust system that has different characteristics for each car. If you want to replace the header, make sure the configuration, hole design, and pipe bends are precisely correct.
The car's performance will improve, whether in high or low torque, depending on the model and type of exhaust header chosen.
4. The right resonator
The resonator is part of the exhaust that functions as a sound dampener. You need to pay attention to the resonator and choose the right dimensions according to the type of car.
It should be noted that choosing a resonator without careful calculations can lead to increased fuel consumption, decreased engine performance, and even cause the car engine to wear out quickly.
5. Quality exhaust pipe
Don't just choose any exhaust pipe or the car's performance may decline. It’s better to choose an exhaust pipe with a perfect shape and bends according to the type and model of the car.
Choosing a quality exhaust pipe can also enhance your car's performance and avoid the possibility of producing black exhaust smoke, because the exhaust gases coming from the engine do not face obstacles if the hole design, configuration, and bends of the pipe are appropriate, not easily rusted, and not clogged.
Because, the smoother the combustion gases are expelled, the greater the car's power will be. For the best exhaust pipe material, choose titanium as it is believed to be more durable and rust-resistant.
In addition to the 5 tips above, don’t forget to adjust the car's transmission before modifying the exhaust. If the car is manual, pay attention to the size of the connections, as well as the design of the components from the header, muffler, and resonator.
Because, in manual cars, every time you change gears and press the gas pedal, the burst of gas from the engine block increases at that moment. That gas flow needs to be managed properly so that its effect returns to the combustion chamber and the exhaust system is orderly.
Meanwhile, for automatic cars, the header configuration is sufficient with 4-2-1 with a design and pipe diameter that is not too large.
