Understanding and Function of Priming Pump for Diesel Fuel

pengertian dan fungsi priming pump

Four-wheeled vehicles have many components embedded within them, including the priming pump. This component is part of the fuel system for cars that use diesel engines.

So, what is the definition and function of the priming pump in the diesel fuel system? Instead of being curious, let's check the detailed review here!

1. Understanding the Components of the Priming Pump

Cars have several important components within them to operate their engines. One of the parts that plays a crucial role is the priming pump in the diesel engine fuel system.

This component, also known as the fuel supply pump or feed pump, will provide fuel to be forwarded to other parts.

In this case, there are two types of components used in four-wheeled vehicles according to the type of pump you use. The types present in the priming pump component are the in line type and the distributor type.

2. Function of the Fuel Supply Pump

As the name suggests, the definition and function of the priming pump is to take fuel from the car's storage tank. Then, this component will channel it to other parts of the car, namely to the injection pump

Before being channeled, the engine has a fuel filtration process through a diesel filter first. Once the fuel is drawn, it will be directly channeled.

In terms of its operation, this fuel supply pump is located in the injection pump and is driven by the camshaft power. Not only does it take fuel, but the priming pump component can also expel unnecessary air from the diesel engine fuel system.

Thus, there will be no disruption to the injection pump and others. If there is a problem with the injection pump, the priming pump will immediately address it.

However, if the function of the priming pump is disrupted and does not operate as it should, this can cause the four-wheeled vehicle to suddenly stop. Therefore, the definition and function of the priming pump is to adequately fill the fuel space when the car is driven.

3. Components in the Priming Pump?

In its operation, the priming pump has several special components to function optimally. One of the components that make up the priming pump is the piston.

Relying on this component allows the priming pump to draw fuel from the tank. The function of the piston is to provide air pressure in the storage tank.

Once the air pressure enters a vacuum condition, the fuel can be directly channeled to the combustion engine. Additionally, there is also a check valve that serves to prevent air pressure from the opposite direction.

This part of the priming pump can prevent the risk of danger that may occur from fuel backflow.

The next component in the priming pump is the diesel filter. As per the definition and function of the priming pump, the purpose of the diesel filter is to filter fuel from the storage tank.

This is important to do before the fuel is channeled to the injection pump. Thus, the fuel entering the injection pump is ensured to be clean.
