Easy Headlamp Care to Keep It Clear
JAKARTA, OCTOBER 2024, Daihatsu friends have you ever seen car headlamps appear foggy. This condition can also occur in turn signals and brake lights, especially on the inside of the lens or glass. This problem is also very likely to be experienced by new cars, in addition to older vehicles that are the most vulnerable.
Why is there fog in the Headlamp?
The appearance of fog or condensation inside the lamp lens generally occurs due to the temperature difference between the outside of the lamp lens and its interior. This causes water spots to form inside the lens, which can damage visibility in addition to its function. If it occurs repeatedly, the presence of water spots can cause a short circuit in the light bulb, leading to rust.
Fog inside the lamp lens usually occurs after heavy rain followed by sunny weather. Or after the car comes out of the car wash when the weather is clear. During these conditions, the temperature difference between the inside and outside of the lens causes dew points to form.
The presence of fog clearly cannot be left alone. Because the moisture inside the lamp housing is generally due to the sealant adhesive between the lens and the lamp housing experiencing leaks. This could be due to the adhesive becoming brittle with age or could also be a production failure for new cars.
It is different if there is no fog but there is water inside the lamp lens. It could be that your Daihatsu car just went through a flood. Thus, water can enter through the ventilation holes or the rubber seal protecting the bulb housing (lamp fitting) that has started to wear out. But if fog appears, it can be confirmed that it is from the sealant of the lamp lens that has leaked.

Now, if the fog condition occurs too often, even to the point where water enters the lamp housing. Whether we like it or not, the car lights must be repaired at a specialist headlamp workshop. This step is for repairs in the damaged area, cleaning dirty parts, and applying new sealant glue to prevent leaks from recurring.
However, for Daihatsu friends who haven't had a chance to take it to a special lamp workshop, a preventive action that can be taken is to avoid spraying pressurized water around the headlamp. Especially trying to drive through floods, especially for low cars like sedans.
