Car brakes making a hissing sound is a common problem experienced with car brakes. Do not underestimate this issue when it affects your car. Because it can lead to a number of negative impacts. Whether it results in damaged brakes or traffic accidents.

Car brakes making a hissing sound do not happen just like that. There must be a reason behind it. So, what causes the car brakes to make a hissing sound?

Uneven Discs and Drums

The first cause of car brakes making a hissing sound is uneven discs and drums. This cause usually arises due to the discs and drums rubbing against each other too frequently.

Uneven discs and drums will cause the car to vibrate when braking. In addition to vibrating, the brakes will also emit a hissing sound when used.

To address this, you can machine the discs and drums. That is, if the condition is not too severe. If the condition is severe, you should take it to an official workshop.

Stuck Brake System

A stuck braking system is another cause. This cause usually arises due to damage to the piston in the brakes. If left unchecked, it can cause the pads to not press properly, and of course, produce a hissing sound. This also makes the car feel heavy when braking, as the piston struggles to return to its original position.

Dirty Brakes

In addition to being stuck, dirty brakes can also cause the car to emit a hissing sound. Dirty brakes can arise from various reasons. Whether it’s due to rainwater, dust, or dirt.

If left unattended, the brakes will produce a louder sound. To resolve this, you can regularly clean the brakes with a special fluid. If the condition is quite severe, it wouldn’t hurt to take your car to an official workshop.

Oil Dripping During Braking

It is not uncommon for oil to drip from the car when we are about to brake. This oil usually drips onto the pads and disc brake. If left unchecked, it can cause the brakes to make a hissing sound and disrupt comfort when braking the car.

The way to solve this is not difficult. You just need to check the oil regularly so that it does not drip anymore and does not seep into other parts.

Air Leak in the Brake Booster

The brake booster is a part of the brakes that functions to lighten the foot pressure when stepping on the brake pedal. The brake booster uses air vacuum that is directly connected to the car engine.

It can be very dangerous if the vacuum experiences an air leak. In addition to causing the brakes to make a hissing sound, it will also make the brake pedal feel heavy when pressed. Often, the brake pedal becomes difficult to press when this happens.

Do not force yourself to press the brake when this happens. Besides not eliminating the hissing sound from the brakes, forcing it will also damage your car's brake pedal. Immediately take it to a workshop or call a mechanic to handle it.

The six causes above are among them. By understanding these causes, hopefully, you can be more aware and cautious when the brakes start to emit a hissing sound.
