The History of the Inventor of the First Car in the World and Its Development in Indonesia

The History of the First Car in the World

You might have thought that the first car was created in America, considering that this four-wheeled vehicle has become one of the focuses of automotive production in the United States. 

However, actually long before American-made cars became popular, the invention of the gasoline-powered car was created by a German national.

Around the year 1886, Karl Benz in Mannheim and Daimler along with William Maybach in Stuttgart were the people who initiated the invention of the four-wheeled vehicle. 

Karl Benz and his two friends initially created the Motorwagen, which was a three-wheeled motor vehicle powered by gasoline.

The Motorwagen became the first car in the world, resembling a rickshaw, but more modern because it was powered by gasoline. 

Then Karl Benz and his two friends established the Daimler Group, a well-known car company that still stands strong to this day.

Through this automotive company, Karl Benz was able to patent his own throttle system, gear shifter, spark plug, water radiator, carburetor, and other basic materials.

Around the year 1901, the Mercedez Benz no. 1 was released and became the bridge that closed the gap between cars and horse-drawn carriages. This car was able to meet the needs of the community well.

At that time, no one could match the superiority of the Mercedez car design, especially with its very capable specifications. 

Where this four-wheeled vehicle already had three horsepower, a swinging steering wheel, 1 cylinder, and a dashboard. Until then, gasoline-powered cars also began to be produced in large numbers in the United States.

The history of the first car in the world, if examined again, was actually created in America around the year 1798 by Oliver Evans. 

However, the car made by Oliver Evans used steam power to operate the vehicle. Thus, the use of steam-powered cars began to be abandoned.

After the Mercedez car became known worldwide, in 1902, an American car company named Oldsmobile was established. This company was mass-developed by William Durrant and Henry Ford. 

This company even began to produce cars on a large scale to attract the attention of the global community. 

After its development in Europe and America was quite rapid, in the 1980s Japan also became a leading car producer in the world. 

Japan is one of the countries in Asia whose automotive production can compete with European and American countries. As competition became increasingly fierce, America and other manufacturers continued to innovate.

The History of Cars in Indonesia

If the first car in the world is closely related to Europe and America, then the history of cars in Indonesia originated from Solo and is closely related to Sultan Pakoe Boewono X. 

Around the year 1894, the vehicles used by the local community were still horse-drawn carriages. However, in that year, Sultan Pakoe Boewono X imported a vehicle called the Benz Victoria Phaeton. 

The presence of this vehicle was felt very foreign by the community, until they referred to it as a devil vehicle because the Victoria Phaeton could run without being pulled by horses.

Then around the year 1907, Sultan Pakoe Boewono X imported a car made by Daimler, founded by Karl Benz. 

After that, in the following years, well-known brands from Daimler's car company also entered the country. Until now, Indonesia has imported cars from various different countries.
