Car Light Relay Scheme and How to Install It
The car lamp relay scheme is actually provided by the car manufacturer in the form of a relay set. However, this car lamp relay scheme can be creatively made by the car owner independently without having to go to a workshop.
Nevertheless, many car owners still do not know how to create a lamp relay scheme and how to install it correctly, so they still need the help of a workshop mechanic.
Here is a detailed explanation of how to create a relay scheme and how to install it correctly.
How to Properly Install Car Lamp Relay
There are two ways to install a lamp relay, namely by installing a lamp that is purchased as a set and by installing a lamp with a self-made scheme. The complete methods are as follows.
1. How to install a purchased lamp relay set
In the market, car lamp relays are sold as a set. Each set contains 2, 3, or 4 relays. The installation method is quite easy; you just need to connect the lamp socket to the positive and negative terminals of the car battery.
2. How to install a lamp relay with a self-made scheme
The 3 relay scheme is the most convenient lamp relay scheme for you to create and install independently. The installation method is as follows.
- First, connect terminal 30 to the fuse or circuit breaker, then connect it to the positive and negative terminals of the car battery. This applies to all relays.
- Next, on the first relay, you need to connect the wire from terminal 85 to the wire provided by the car manufacturer or the original wire. Don't forget to also connect terminal 87 to the lamp socket, and terminal 86 to the negative terminal of the battery (ground).
- After finishing the first relay, proceed to the second and third relays. The installation method is the same as for the first relay. To make the connections between sockets look neater, you can use insulation when connecting the wires to the lamp socket. Besides looking neater, this also helps prevent the risk of electrical short circuits.
These are some methods you can follow when installing a lamp relay in your car.
Function of Lamp Relay in Cars
After you know how to properly install a lamp relay in your car, you need to understand what the function of the lamp relay is. The complete functions are as follows.
1. Functions as a switch
The main function of the lamp relay is as an electromagnetic switch. When electric current flows to terminals 85 and 86, the coil in the relay generates a magnetic field.
2. Clarifies the horn sound
The car lamp relay can also clarify the sound produced by the horn by making the sound louder.
3. Improves the quality of lamp illumination
The car lamp relay also functions to enhance the output or quality of the illumination produced by the car lights, making them brighter. This occurs because the car lamp relay can carry a high-capacity electric current.
4. Extends the lifespan of wires and switches
The car lamp relay also serves as a protector for the switch because the high electric current is transmitted to the relay first before being converted to the switch. If there is a short circuit, the relay will cut off the electric current, preventing damage to the switch. Additionally, the lamp relay also protects the wires, preventing them from overheating when receiving high electric currents, thus extending the lifespan of the wires.
Considering its important functions, you need to pay attention to this component; if there is any damage, immediately service it at an official Daihatsu workshop.
