Advantages of Smart SIM Compared to Old SIM
Through the official website of the Indonesian Traffic Police, korlantas.polri.go.id, it has been explained that there are several advantages of the smart SIM that the old SIM does not have. In addition to its more sophisticated and modern appearance, here are the advantages of this new SIM:
1. Accident Data Records
Whenever an accident involving a rider is recorded by the police, that data will be included in the smart SIM. Each time an accident is known to the police, the information will be updated periodically and stored on the server. This way, the authorities can easily access the driving record of the SIM owner.
2. Recording Forensic Data
Unlike the old SIM, the smart SIM has a special chip inside that functions to store the forensic data of the cardholder. The forensic data of the cardholder includes personal registration data entered by the card owner during SIM registration, such as parents' names, full name as on the ID card, NIK, personal address, contact number, and mobile number.
The new SIM chip also contains fingerprint data, although the fingerprint is not visible from the outside of the card. The fingerprint serves as data for investigation and inquiry.
3. Traffic Violation Records
If the old SIM used to only serve as a card containing personal data for a driving permit, now the smart SIM has additional functions. This smart SIM will contain data regarding traffic violations that the cardholder has committed. All information related to the rider's traffic violations will be recorded on the Korlantas IRSMS server.
4. Evaluation Material for Authorities
Authorities will now find it easier to assess and evaluate the performance of SIM owners while driving on the roads. All driving data, such as accident data and traffic violation data, will be recorded on the smart SIM card chip. The police will use this stored information as evaluation material.
How to Top-Up Balance
You can use your smart SIM as a tool for electronic payments as mentioned above. To activate the smart SIM as an electronic payment tool, you can visit one of the branches of these three banks: BRI, Mandiri, and BNI. These three banks have collaborated with Korlantas Polri.
The method to top up the smart SIM balance when the payment function is active is as follows:
