Tariff for Merak – Bakauheni Round Trip Increases by 5%, Effective November 1, 2024

JAKARTA, November 2024, If you often cross to Sumatra from Java or vice versa, be prepared for this fare increase. Starting from November 1, 2024, the Merak – Bakauheni round-trip fare will experience a price adjustment.

The fare increase is about 5% from before. Fare increases also occur on 26 other ferry routes in Indonesia. This fare increase announcement will take effect on Friday at 00.00, as of November 1, 2024.

"We from the Ministry of Transportation always look at both sides, first from the perspective of the ship operators or companies, we hope they can survive and always exist, on the other hand, we also look at the service users in terms of payment," said Handjar Dwi Antoro, Subdirector of River, Lake, and Ferry Transportation, Ministry of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia. 

The Ministry of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia also requests that this fare increase must be accompanied by improved services for ferry service users from ferry operators. They are expected to maintain minimum service standards and safety and to continue providing the best and sustainable services.
