Tips for Determining the Type of Fuel According to the Car
Fuel Oil (BBM) comes in various types with different octane ratings, from low to high octane which is considered to be of good quality. The octane number is a figure that indicates how much pressure can be applied before gasoline ignites spontaneously. Therefore, the higher the octane, the better the quality.
In Indonesia, pertamax plus is the fuel with the highest octane level, followed by pertamax, pertalite, and premium. Sometimes people are still confused about whether to choose premium fuel or pertamax or pertamax plus. Essentially, what differentiates them is the octane content of the fuel type.
To achieve optimal engine performance, it is advisable to choose fuel according to the vehicle's engine compression. Each type of vehicle has a different engine compression ratio. This compression ratio comparison affects the selection of the appropriate fuel for the vehicle.
Therefore, do not just choose any fuel. Ideally, match it with the engine compression ratio. To find out the engine compression ratio, you can refer to the specifications of the relevant vehicle. As a guideline, here is a list of fuel octane levels that correspond to the engine compression ratios:
Compression ratio 7 to 9:1 uses fuel with an octane level of 88
Compression ratio 9 to 10:1 uses fuel with an octane level of 92
Compression ratio 10 to 11:1 uses fuel with an octane level of 95
Compression ratio 13.1:1 uses fuel with an octane level of 102
Compression ratio 14.1:1 uses fuel with an octane level of 107
For motorcycles and cars produced in the 90s, most still use a compression ratio <= 9.5. However, for vehicles from 2014 onwards, many already use a compression ratio of ? 11. In premium class vehicles, the compression ratio is usually above 12.5. Now you understand what type of fuel you should use?
