The turbocharger is essentially a component that is synonymous with high-performance car engines. So, what is the function and how does this gasoline turbocharger work? Here is the complete information.

Function of Gasoline Turbocharger

A turbocharger is a technology that has a component shape and functions to accelerate the speed of the car by increasing the volume of air to the combustion chamber. Generally, the turbocharger is installed not far from the exhaust component. 

Typically, a turbocharger has 2 main components, namely the compressor and the turbine. These two components are connected in 1 shaft.

Another type of turbocharger is the wastegate control valve turbocharger. This type of turbocharger functions to prevent excessive pressure in the turbine component.

How Gasoline Turbocharger Works

After understanding the function of the turbocharger, how does the turbocharger system work? The turbocharger actually has a very simple working mechanism. 

The remaining air or energy in the exhaust gas will enter the turbocharger shaft and rotate the turbine component inside it. Because these two components are usually in the same shaft, the air that rotates the turbine will also enter and rotate the compressor. 

Later, the compressed air will cause its pressure to increase. As the air pressure increases, the temperature will rise. When the air pressure increases, the intercooler component is used to cool that temperature. 

The desired air temperature is essential for making the volume quality denser and larger. It should be noted that high air temperatures have significantly less volume compared to low air temperatures.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Turbocharger

The use of turbocharger components certainly has its advantages and disadvantages. The advantage of using a turbocharger is that the engine torque produced is much higher compared to the actual engine capacity.

So, is a turbo engine more fuel-efficient? Of course, in terms of fuel, it is also more efficient, because combustion can be done more efficiently. Generally, the turbocharger only operates at high rpm. 

However, despite having several advantages, the turbocharger also has disadvantages. The installation of a turbocharger can cause turbo lag.

Turbo lag is the delay time required for the driver to press the gas pedal so that the turbocharger adds power and torque to the engine.

In addition, when using a turbocharger, engine maintenance must be done regularly. Especially in the engine oil section.

How to Maintain Cars Using Turbocharger

As mentioned earlier, when using a turbocharger, engine maintenance must be done periodically.

If you have a car that uses a turbocharger, the only way to do it is to check it regularly. 

Cars that use turbochargers require regular engine oil changes and thorough checks to ensure that the car's performance is in optimal condition.

If the turbocharger is rarely checked or serviced, the car's performance will decline. In fact, the vehicle will become less comfortable to drive.

When you want to perform maintenance on a gasoline turbocharger, make sure to service it at an official workshop. The official Daihatsu workshop can be a choice if the car you installed the turbocharger on is a Daihatsu vehicle.
