4 Fungsi Pegas pada Mobil & Cara Merawatnya

The function of car springs is quite important for the successful performance of the suspension system in cars. As is known, this system is made by car manufacturers with the aim of dampening shocks or vibrations while the car is in motion. Therefore, car springs should not be taken lightly. The following will explain the functions of car springs and how to properly maintain them.

Functions of Springs in Cars

Talking about the functions of car springs, it turns out they are differentiated based on their types. To avoid confusion, let’s pay attention to the following review.

1. Leaf Springs

Leaf springs function as a conduit for motion and the load of the vehicle from the car frame to the wheels and the center of the car's acceleration drive. This way, the car can move steadily and straight while maneuvering.

You can find this type of spring in vehicles used for transporting goods such as pickup trucks or lorries. The use of leaf springs in these vehicles is not without reason, as this spring is claimed to be able to dampen shocks independently. This is why car manufacturers also use this type of spring in several modern MPVs.

2. Air Springs

As the name suggests, this spring uses air when working to dampen shocks. This spring will compress the air located inside a bag within the suspension arm. This spring functions like an air cushion that will expand when the car travels on uneven road surfaces. As a result, the shocks that occur are absorbed by the air spring so that vibrations do not reach the cabin.

3. Coil Springs

Like other springs, coil springs function as shock absorbers for the car. However, here the coil spring has a different working mechanism. This coil spring can hold loads and pressures in the right position without shifting at all. This maximizes the spring force on the coil. This can prevent shocks from reaching the car body and improve the quality of the car's tire grip.

Considering the many benefits provided by this spring, it is no wonder that this spring is widely used in sedan-type cars. The aim is that this spring can provide a very high level of safety and comfort for car passengers.

4. Torsion Bars

This spring functions as a shock absorber for the car when crossing uneven road surfaces. The shock force is then dampened so that it does not reach the body. In addition, this spring also functions to prevent up and down movement on the car's wheels. This spring has a distinctive shape, which is oval and made of strong yet elastic steel.

How to Maintain Car Springs

After you know the functions of car springs, next you need to know how to properly maintain car springs. Here are the complete maintenance methods.

1. Regularly Check the Condition of the Springs

To ensure your car springs last and work optimally, you need to regularly and periodically check the condition of the car springs. If you are using leaf springs, you can check the rubber bushings. Make sure the rubber is not torn or brittle.

If it is torn, it is best to replace it immediately. Because worn rubber bushings can cause the car to squeak and the suspension system to become unbalanced while driving. For other types of springs, pay attention to whether the spring's force has decreased or not. Or check whether the spring is installed properly.

2. Avoid Carrying Too Much Luggage

The second way is to be wise in carrying luggage while driving. Because overly heavy luggage can make the car springs work beyond their capacity. This can cause the leaf spring to break. For other types of springs, it could shift the position of the spring or damage it.

If the damage to the springs cannot be handled, immediately take your car to the nearest Daihatsu workshop. Because Daihatsu has expert technicians who are competent in their field, and guarantees the authenticity of the spare parts sold.
