Hello Friends, are you planning to modify or replace your car's wheels to achieve a different and cool look for your car? Usually, what is the first thing you think about when you want to buy wheels? The brand of the wheels, the model of the wheels, or the price of the wheels?

Actually, if you want to buy wheels for your car, the thing you need to pay attention to is the roundness of its shape, you know, Friends. Why is that?

Because the manufacturing of wheels uses a casting system. So you have to be careful in observing the shape of the wheels, because not all molds are perfect. Roundness in the wheels is very important for vehicle balance to ensure comfort while driving the car.

For Friends who are already familiar with the automotive world, this is certainly not a new and difficult thing to determine the right wheels for the car. But for those who are new to the automotive world, you need to know the terms related to wheels first.

Because most people only understand about the width and the tread. Like wheels 15, 17, or 18 and a width of 8 or 9.

Understand the Terms of Car Wheels

1. Pitch Circle Diameter (PCD)

In short, the PCD of car wheels is the diameter distance between opposing wheel bolts on the wheels, to find out you can measure the distance between two opposing bolt holes and measure it in centimeters.

Never force wheels that have a different PCD, okay Friends, like using a plate to adjust the holes on the wheels. It will lose comfort in driving.

2. Offset

Offset is indicated at the center cross-section of the wheels with the lip of the wheels. This can be seen with numbers like ET 10, ET 25, ET 40, and so on.

The smaller the number of the center cross-section, the deeper and wider the lip of the wheels becomes, and the larger the cross-section number, the thinner and the lip of the wheels moves inward into the car's fender.

Understanding Types of Car Wheels

1. Wheels Casting

This type of wheels is produced in large quantities or mass production. The density in the wheels cannot be controlled because air easily mixes when the wheels material is melted. The advantage of choosing casting wheels is that the price for these wheels is cheaper, production is fast, and the design can be shaped in various ways.

2. Wheels Forged

The process of making forged wheels is more complex compared to the other two types of wheels. The process starts from solid wheels material, then cut into whole wheels and worked on by hand, making this type of wheels relatively expensive because it is more perfect.

3. Wheels Flowform

The process of making these wheels does not involve creating a wheels directly. Instead, it starts with making a small part first. While casting wheels can be produced in large quantities, this type of wheels is only as big as a motorcycle tire, but uses thick material that is drawn until it becomes a wheels. Flowform wheels are almost like forged wheels and the price is still in the middle range.

So, Friends who want to know the quality of car wheels, can test by hanging the wheels with rubber and tapping it with a screwdriver to hear the sound. If the wheels of good quality have a smooth and lasting sound. Meanwhile, wheels of lower quality may have a loud and short sound due to the material and manufacturing process.
