Actually, to find out how many amps a car battery has is not difficult. However, each car battery has a different ampere rating, ranging from 35 Amps, 40 Amps, 45 Amps, to 60 Amps.

As a result, many people feel confused about the ampere rating of their car battery.

Especially if the manufacturer does not specify the ampere value of the produced car battery. To avoid confusion, here is how to measure the ampere of a car battery.

The Importance of Knowing the Ampere Rating of a Car Battery

A car battery is a component that should not be taken lightly and must be considered by car users. Therefore, you should regularly maintain the car battery to ensure its longevity.

The battery functions as a storage and distributor of electrical energy that will be supplied to the car's electrical system, such as the lighting system, ignition, and even the starter system.

Thus, when buying and replacing a car battery, you need to know how many volts and amps to choose.

So, what is the correct ampere value? Before discussing further, it is best to first know your car's electrical load.

Basically, not all cars have the same load, so it is necessary to pay attention to its power.

If a car has a large electrical load, it is advisable not to use a battery with low power because it will cause the battery to drain quickly, and conversely, if the battery power is too high, the car's electrical system cannot operate optimally.

How to Measure the Ampere of a Car Battery

There are several easy ways to measure the ampere of a car battery, here are the methods.

1. Check the Battery Body

All battery manufacturers certainly provide information on the ampere size and electrical power indicated on the battery body.

You can find this information by looking at the battery voltage; usually, the ampere size information is aligned with the battery voltage.

For example, if you find the label 12 Volts, then how many amps does a 12 Volt battery have? The ampere rating will be next to it and marked with the unit Ah, for example, 65 Ah or 65 Amps.

2. Check the Battery Code

If you do not find the ampere rating on the battery body, you can check the top cover of the battery, which usually has the code and brand of the battery manufacturer.

For batteries circulating in Indonesia, they usually have a JIS code, which means it is a standard from Japanese manufacturers, and ETN, which is a standard from European manufacturers. The JIS code itself is divided into two types: old and new.

How to Read the Old Version JIS Battery Code

A battery with a JIS code, for example, NZ35LS, means that NZ indicates that the battery is a smaller type with a power reduction of about 20%, while 35 indicates the main power capacity of the battery.

The code Z indicates an additional capacity of the battery reaching 10 percent after being reduced by 20 percent from type NS, L indicates left (negative terminal or battery head is on the left), and S indicates that the battery has a large terminal for the NS size.

How to Read the New Version JIS Battery Code

For example, a 2007 Daihatsu Grand Max has the code 34B19R, which means that the number 35 indicates that the battery has an actual capacity of 35 Ah.

B indicates that the battery affects the height and width of the battery, 19 means that the length of the battery is 19 cm, R indicates that the battery head is on the right side.

Although both are Japanese standards, each car has different ampere requirements for its battery.

For example, the Daihatsu Grand Max, Sirion, Terios, Xenia have an ampere capacity of 33 Ah, while the Yaris has an ampere capacity of 45 Ah.

How to Read the ETN Code

The ETN battery code 55520 means that the battery has a capacity of 055 Ah or 55 Ah.

Here are the reading rules: if the first digit of the battery code is 5, it means 0; if the first digit is 6, it means 1; and if the first digit is 7, it means 2, while the second digit of the battery code remains the same.

3. Check with an Ampere Meter

You can also use an ampere meter to check the ampere capacity produced by your car battery.

Now, after reading the article on how to determine the ampere size and capacity of a car battery and how to measure it, hopefully, you can be more clever in choosing it in the future.

The conclusion from the question of how many amps a car battery has is that it has different ampere capacities. As we mentioned above, some have a car battery capacity of 35 Amps, 40 Amps, 45 Amps, up to 60 Amps.

If you are curious, you can also ask directly to a workshop technician or the nearest Daihatsu dealer and inquire about how many amps your car battery has when you want to replace the battery.
