The engine of the car uses the principle of converting thermal energy into kinetic energy. This energy will drive the wheels. 

In its operation, a car also needs an intake of air or oxygen for fuel combustion. 

This is where the function of the car's air filter comes into play. But what happens if this filter is dirty? Here are some negative effects.

1. Power and Acceleration of the Engine Decreases 

The problem of a car's pull being uncomfortable or heavy can occur for many reasons. However, one of the issues that may arise could be due to a lack of air or oxygen in the engine. 

This will then have a significant effect on the fuel combustion process and affect performance, which is considered sluggish. 

This issue will be felt if you drive at high speeds. The acceleration from low to high will feel “pulled.” This makes the car feel less comfortable. 

If this happens, it is advisable to visit a mechanic and check the car's engine. If the car filter is very dirty, it is recommended to replace it with a new one.

2. Carbon Buildup in the Combustion Chamber 

A dirty car air filter will have a negative effect on the fuel combustion components. In this case, the most feared issue is the buildup of carbon deposits. 

This buildup is not too dangerous, but it will make the fuel burning process in the engine less than optimal. As a result, it will waste fuel. Regardless of whether you use gasoline or diesel fuel, a combustion chamber that does not have a good supply of O2 will not be able to work optimally. 

This is because a filter clogged with dirt will have a “suffocating” effect on the engine. Thus, fresh air cannot enter, and the dust that sticks can easily be sucked into the burner.

Dust particles that are not filtered by the filter will stick and settle in the combustion chamber and other components. The components affected include the piston, spark plugs, and valves, which cause the car's performance to decline. 

If the condition of the car's air filter is left for a long time, there is a high possibility that the car could suddenly stall.

3. Change in Exhaust Smoke Color 

One of the easiest effects to see is the exhaust smoke. Generally, a blocked air filter will allow many small and dirty particles to enter. 

As a result, the engine's combustion chamber cannot work perfectly, causing black smoke to come out of the exhaust. This smoke can also indicate that something is wrong with the vehicle's engine.

4. Physical Appearance of the Filter Looks Dirty 

It is very clear that a filter that is not cleaned will look dirty. However, this physical condition can also indicate that the filter component needs to be replaced. 

A device that appears blackened with dirt covering the mesh and looks damp indicates that the filter is no longer suitable. Even if the car's air filter has not reached a certain distance, it is advisable to replace the dirty filter immediately.
