What is SATPAS (Administrative Service Unit)? 

SATPAS or Administrative Service Unit is a service unit that serves the process of extending driver's licenses, issuing driver's licenses, and changing types of driver's licenses in Indonesia. 

Functions of SATPAS 

There are several functions of SATPAS that you need to know. The functions are as follows. 

1. Conducting technical guidance and training on driver's license introduction.
2. Serving the issuance of driver's license cards and the administrative process for applicants who have met the requirements. This includes the process of extending driver's licenses, issuing new driver's licenses, or changing types of driver's licenses.
3. Fully responsible for the theoretical or practical testing process for making driver's licenses. 
4. Re-testing, canceling, and revoking driver's licenses for license holders who commit violations.
5. Acting as a liaison for operational implementation between the police and other agencies.

Types of SATPAS

SATPAS located throughout Indonesia is divided into two types as follows. 

1. SATPAS SIM

SATPAS SIM is a type of SATPAS that serves the process of making driver's licenses, extending driver's licenses, and issuing driver's licenses. However, if you are making or extending a driver's license at SATPAS SIM service, you need to visit the SATPAS service unit and queue. 

2. SATPAS Drive Thru

Differences between SATPAS and SAMSAT

There are several things that differentiate SATPAS from SAMSAT. The complete differences are as follows. 

1. Involved agencies

The first difference can be seen from the agency that oversees or is involved in the operational process. 

• SATPAS or Administrative Service Unit: The agency that oversees SATPAS is Korlantas Polri. This traffic corps is directly responsible for the process of issuing driver's licenses.
• SAMSAT or One-Stop Integrated Administration System : The agency that oversees SAMSAT is the police. However, the police also partners with the local Dispenda (Regional Revenue Service) and toll road managers such as Jasa Raharja.

2. Service focus

The second difference can be seen from the focus of the services provided. 

• SATPAS: The focus of the services provided by SATPAS to the public is on the administrative processes of making, extending, changing types, or replacing driver's licenses due to damage or loss. In addition, SATPAS is also responsible for conducting theoretical or practical tests for driver's licenses. 
• SAMSAT: The focus of the services provided by SAMSAT is on vehicle administration services such as the issuance and payment of BPKB and STNK. 

3. Types of documents managed

• SATPAS: A driver's license is the document managed by SATPAS and is a legal driving license that must be possessed by every driver in Indonesia.
• SAMSAT: Meanwhile, the types of documents managed by SAMSAT include BPKB, STNK, and several documents related to vehicle taxes.
