STCK stands for Surat Tanda Coba Kendaraan. This letter serves as a road letter for a vehicle to be driven on the road. However, this letter is temporary until the original STNK is issued. Usually, STCK is only valid for one month. STCK is also often referred to as temporary license plates. 

When buying a new car at a showroom or dealer, the police will not directly provide you with the TNKB and STNK of the car. You need to go through the process of managing the administration of the vehicle ownership that you just purchased. This administrative process takes about a month. 

While you are in the process of managing this, you can still use the car you just bought. The police, especially Samsat, will provide you with STCK as a temporary road letter for the vehicle.

Although STCK can be used as a road letter for the vehicle, you are not allowed to drive outside the area (city). This refers to the regulations of the Traffic and Road Transportation Law No. 22 of 2009 in Article 69 and Article 69 paragraph 1.

How to Manage STCK for New Cars in 2024

Before you proceed with the STCK management process for the car, you need to complete the following requirements.

1. You are required to fill out the STCK form that you can obtain at the nearest Samsat counter.
2. You must bring a photocopy of your ID card along with the original ID card. If you do not bring it, you can use your passport or driver’s license.
3. You are also required to attach a business license from the business entity (showroom or dealer) where you purchased the car.
4. In addition, you must attach the vehicle type test certificate, vehicle type registration certificate, and proof of passing the vehicle type test from the dealer or showroom where you purchased the car.
5. Don’t forget to also attach a letter of application for the creation of STCK.

After the above requirements are complete, you can proceed with the STCK management. Here are the complete steps to manage STCK.

1. First, fill out the motor vehicle registration and data collection form (SPPKB).
2. After you fill out the form, submit it along with the other requirements you have completed to the Samsat service counter.
3. The officer will process all these requirements, and then you will receive a receipt for the STCK registration form.
4. Next, you need to conduct a physical test of the vehicle by bringing your car to the Samsat. Don’t forget to bring the receipt for the STCK registration form when doing the physical test. Also, remember to ask for proof of payment receipt for the physical test.
5. Submit the receipt along with the physical test receipt to the officer, and don’t forget to make the STCK payment.
6. Wait a moment until the officer provides you with the STCK.

Cost of Creating STCK

The cost of STCK for cars with white plates is usually charged at Rp50,000. However, this cost varies depending on the region. However, if your car's license plate is still using a black plate, the cost is approximately Rp1.5 million.
