How to adjust a tilted front car tire is something that car owners need to understand. This is because a tilted front tire can disrupt balance and driving comfort, and even pose a risk of accidents. So how do you do it? For more details, please refer to the following guide.

How to Adjust a Tilted Front Car Tire

There are several ways to adjust a tilted front car tire back to normal. Here are the complete methods.

1. Check the air pressure in the tire

Before you adjust the balance of the front tire, you should first check the air pressure in the tire according to the manufacturer's standards. A tire with low air pressure causes the center of the tire to become very flat. Meanwhile, a tire with excessive air pressure causes the center of the tire to rise.

2. Check the tire wear level

In addition to checking the air pressure in the tire, checking the tire wear level is also necessary. Worn tires are one of the causes of a tilted front tire when adjusted.

3. Check the car's suspension system

Next, you need to check the suspension system, especially the condition of the suspension and speed springs. Ensure that both components are not damaged. The condition of these two components greatly determines the result of balancing the front car tire.

4. Adjust the balance of the front car tire

After checking the tires and the car's suspension system, you can proceed to adjust the balance of the front car tire. To balance a tilted front tire, you can perform the alignment technique. This alignment technique can be done using a thread or a measuring tape.

5. Test the balance of the front tire

After the alignment process has been completed, you need to test the results of the front tire balance adjustment by driving. If the front tire is balanced, the car will usually be easy to control, will not tilt to one side while driving, and the braking will be even.

Several Alignment Techniques

Here are some alignment techniques that you can try.

1. Alignment with thread

The method is as follows.

  • First, prepare adjustment tools such as mattress thread or kite thread, a ring spanner, and a pipe wrench with sizes 12, 14, 17, 19.
  • Park the car on a flat surface.
  • Ensure the steering wheel is in a straight position.
  • Attach and stretch the thread on the rear wheels of the car, then direct it to the front wheels, and then to the other rear wheel.
  • Next, tie the thread to the rear wheel components of the car.
  • Then check if there is a gap on the wheels or not. If there is, you need to adjust the length of the tie rod until you get a proper adjustment.
  • Adjust the tie rod until there is no gap. A proper adjustment is usually indicated by the thread being neither too loose nor too tight.
  • Next, use a wrench to tighten the tie rod.

2. Alignment with measuring tape

The method is as follows.

  • Prepare a measuring tape.
  • Move the parked car about three meters away.
  • Ensure the steering wheel is straight and aligned.
  • Then pull the handbrake.
  • Then measure the distance between the front wheels and the rear wheels using the measuring tape you prepared earlier. If there is a difference in distance between each wheel, you need to perform alignment similar to the thread alignment method.
  • Then adjust the tie rod bolts and align them with the original position of the tires. Ensure the wheel adjustment does not exceed 1-5 mm.
