Traveling to Banda Neira, As If Entering the Dutch Colonial Era

Naira Island, also known as Banda Neira, is an island in the Banda Islands, Maluku, Indonesia, known as the land of exotic spices.
In the past, before arriving in Batavia (now called Jakarta), the Dutch managed to control the Banda Neira area. This is because Banda Neira is rich in nutmeg, the most expensive spice in the European market.
If you are interested in exploring one of the historical stories of the Dutch in Indonesia, Banda Neira could be the right choice.
Geographically, Banda Neira is surrounded by beaches, volcanoes, tropical forests, and unparalleled coral reefs. It is said that this beautiful island has experienced several earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, the last recorded eruption was in 1988. But it has not changed its natural beauty.
The Banda Islands are covered with towering tropical trees, as well as aromatic ones. The islands have a long and interesting history, especially during the Dutch colonial period.
The calm and beautiful waters are enveloped by nutmeg gardens and sandy beaches. Today, the Banda Islands have volcanic mountains that can be climbed.
This island is also surrounded by Myristica trees and covered with lush green plants. With such beauty, Banda Neira deserves to be called a tropical paradise in the middle of the sea.
Historical relics from the Dutch colonial era
As one of the most prominent and interesting islands in the archipelago, Banda Neira is a place where the past and present, beauty and gloom, ruins and revival walk hand in hand.
When you set foot here, it feels as if you are transported to the thick atmosphere of Dutch colonialism. There are forts and grand palaces still standing tall as if telling stories of the past.
There is an aromatic scent of spices like nutmeg and cloves wafting in the air, making the atmosphere comfortable and relaxing.
