The type of diesel cars is increasingly popular among the domestic community. It is slightly different from cars that use gasoline as fuel.

Cars that utilize this diesel fuel are considered to require some attention to their engine components.

One of them is the fuel pump, so you need to know the signs of a damaged diesel pump below.

1. Fuel Pump Fuse Blown

One of the signs of a problematic or even damaged diesel pump can be seen in the fuel pump fuse. The location of this fuse can be found quite easily, which is under the hood of the car right next to the battery.

If you see signs of burning, it can be confirmed that the diesel pump is experiencing problems.

A burnt or blown fuse occurs because that component has to multiply the existing electric current to support the performance of the fuel pump.

However, at the same time, the fuel pump is clogged with dirt, making the job of the fuse heavier and resulting in it burning out or blowing.

2. Testing Through the Carburetor

Next, to know the signs of a damaged diesel pump, you can perform a test on the carburetor

This testing method is quite easy; first, open the carburetor and spray it using carburetor cleaner. The car engine may start temporarily due to the carburetor spray.

If the car dies shortly after, it can be confirmed that the fuel pump is damaged.

Ensure this by conducting the test at least three times, which is intended to determine whether the diesel pump can still deliver fuel or not.

If not, the car will not be able to start again as previously explained.

3. Engine Stuttering or Total Shutdown

An engine that stutters or even shuts down completely can be one of the signs of a damaged diesel pump that you can identify. This sign is one of the most common occurrences and is quite easy to identify.

Because a series of fuel systems directly affects whether the car can be started or not.

When the engine speed is high, suddenly the engine stutters and then dies. After that, when you try to start it again, the engine does not activate and shuts down completely.

This occurs because the fuel pump is clogged with dirt, causing the fuel supply to the combustion chamber to be obstructed or even stopped.

The stuttering and sudden shutdown of the engine may also occur due to electrical system factors.

So first try to fix the existing electrical system; if the engine still cannot start, then this is one of the signs of a damaged diesel pump. Do not let this situation drag on; it is best to repair it at the nearest workshop.
