The development of technology in the automotive field is quite rapid and has successfully improved vehicle performance both in terms of the engine and other components.

Even now, there are many car products that use EFI technology (Electronic Fuel Injection). Why is the EFI system in cars so special? To find out, check out the following review.

Understanding the Electronic Fuel Injection System

EFI is a system that supplies fuel electronically from the vehicle's tank. Before using this advanced technology, four-wheeled vehicles were already familiar with the conventional fuel system. This system uses its engine carburetor to channel fuel through a technical pump.

The carburetor here plays an important role in supplying gasoline with the right capacity. Starting from this problem, an electronic device called EFI emerged.

Unfortunately, this conventional system cannot meet the fuel volume up to 100%, so the engine cannot work optimally, which then affects vehicle emissions.

EFI Working Principle

EFI or Electronic Fuel Injection consists of several parts, namely sensor, processor, and actuator that function to optimally inject gasoline into the combustion chamber.

The EFI system in cars is specifically designed to measure the amount of air that will be drawn in, while also controlling the fuel injection to be delivered to the cylinder.

The working principle of EFI itself uses pressure differences, but the pressure is made slightly higher compared to the conventional system.

As a result, this technology is able to increase the pressure in the fuel line, causing the gasoline to become more perfect.

To make it easier to understand the working principle, you can liken it to a faucet.

When you slowly open the faucet, the water pressure that comes out is quite low and just flows. Conversely, the water pressure will increase when you open the faucet to its maximum point.

Meanwhile, the electric fuel pump in the electric motor serves to increase fuel pressure, where its performance is not affected by the amount of RPM that the engine can produce.

Thus, the fuel pressure of the vehicle can be controlled well and stably, making the EFI system in cars very suitable for application in injection vehicles.

Types of Digital Carburetion Systems

As previously explained, EFI is specifically designed to measure the amount of air that will be drawn in, while also controlling the fuel injection according to the engine's needs.

The system itself is divided into two types consisting of Type D and Type L. In Type D, the amount of incoming air is measured based on the pressure in the intake manifold using a vacuum sensor or known as a MAP sensor.

The level of vacuum determines how much fuel needs to be injected through its injector. Meanwhile, in Type L, the amount of incoming air will be measured using an air flow meter.

Recently, the production of cars with injection systems has been intensified as one of the efforts to reduce the levels of toxic gases produced by motor vehicle engines.

One way to do this is by replacing the manual carburetion system with the EFI system in cars, or more commonly referred to as the digital carburetion system.
