Peeking into the Function of the Charcoal Canister and How It Works

Charcoal canister is one of the car components closely related to gasoline. For your four-wheeled vehicle's engine to run, gasoline must first undergo a combustion process.

This process will cause a chemical reaction that is harmful to humans. Therefore, the function of the charcoal canister is essential for engine performance. Here is a detailed review!

What is the Vapour Canister Component?

This component is part of the combustion system in four-wheeled vehicles. Its shape resembles a tube for holding active charcoal material.

This component is directly connected to the carburetor chamber, fuel, and also the carburetor filling channel.

The vapour canister system itself was introduced in the 1970s by the United States as an effort to reduce air pollution.

At that time, the charcoal canister's performance was still conventional as it relied on the intake channel of the combustion chamber. In modern times, the charcoal canister operates with an electric control system.

Function of the Vapour Canister Component in Cars

The function of the charcoal canister is closely related to the gasoline in the combustion chamber. Specifically, this component serves as a temporary storage place for fuel vapor in the tank.

This component will store fuel vapor or gasoline while the four-wheeled vehicle's engine is off.

After that, it will be channeled to the intake manifold in the combustion chamber for immediate processing. Then, when the car is started, the fuel vapor will be processed in the car's combustion chamber.

The purpose of burning this vapor is to reduce hydrogen gas emissions that do not pollute the environment or pose a danger to humans.

How the Vapour Canister Works

As already known, the main function of the canister component in four-wheeled vehicles is closely related to the combustion process in the car. So, how does this component work effectively?

In its operation, there are two processes that can occur, namely when the engine is off and when it is running. When the car engine is off after use, its temperature tends to be higher.

This happens because, in this condition, the fuel stored in the combustion tank undergoes evaporation. The vapor then enters the vapour canister. The function of the charcoal canister in this process will enter through the ventilation hose.

After that, this fuel vapor is filtered and stored in the vapour canister. When the car engine is turned on, the vapor is automatically channeled through the intake manifold.

The vapor will be burned together with the fuel and air. Not only that, the operation of the vapour canister can also be observed when the engine is running.

In this condition, the piston will move from the top dead center to the bottom dead center. While moving, the combustion system will enter a vacuum.

In this process, the vapor stored in the vapour canister will be sucked along with the mixture of fuel and air in the intake chamber

The gas and air mixture from the combustion process will pass through the canister valve. After that, it will be burned in the combustion chamber of the car. The canister valve will work in one direction only to prevent gas leakage.

From here, you can understand that the function of the charcoal canister is very important for the combustion process.

That is some information regarding the components in the car's combustion system. As already known, the charcoal canister can function as a stabilizer for the chemicals produced by the combustion process.

Without this important component, fuel vapor cannot be filtered, leading to environmental pollution and posing a danger to human health.
