Parking a car on an incline is actually dangerous, as it can damage several components of the car. Unfortunately, this is still done due to several factors. Ranging from the ignorance of drivers to the lack of relatively flat parking spaces.

Car Components That Will Be Damaged Due to Parking on an Incline

There are several car components that will be damaged when parking on an incline. Especially if done too often. Some of these components are:

1. Car Brakes

The first component of the car that will be damaged is the car brakes. When the car is parked on an incline, the brakes will bear a heavy load, especially at the rear of the car. If left unchecked, the car brakes will gradually suffer damage. One sign of damage is the heaviness of the rotation on the car's tires.

2. Car Suspension

Car suspension is another component that will be at risk of damage. When the car is forced to park on an incline, the suspension at the rear of the car will wear out. This is due to the heavy load that the suspension bears when the car is parked on an incline.

How to Park a Car on an Incline

Although prohibited, there are certain conditions that require us to park in an inclined area. For example, when you visit a friend's house that is on an incline and does not have an ideal parking space.

To ensure the car is parked relatively safely, you can follow several methods that we will outline in this article. Some of these methods are:

1. Activate the Parking Mode on the Car

This method is suitable for those who have an automatic car. Activate the parking mode available on the car, then make adjustments to your car's transmission lever. The adjustment of the transmission lever must be tailored to the slope of the road. Whether it is steep enough or somewhat flat.

2. Engage the Gear in the Car

This one is suitable for manual cars. When the car is parked on an incline, you must engage first gear in the car. This method is done so that the wheels can be more locked when parked on an incline.

This method is almost the same as when you want to park a manual car on a decline. The difference is, when parking downhill, you do not engage first gear. Instead, you engage reverse (R) in your manual car.

3. Position the Front Wheels Toward the Road Shoulder or Sidewalk

When the car is parked on an incline, it may slowly roll down. To avoid this, you must position the front wheels of the car toward the road shoulder or sidewalk. Doing this can help keep the car's wheels held at the shoulder or sidewalk. Thus, the chance of the car rolling down can be minimized.

4. Chock the Wheels with Wooden Blocks or Bricks

In addition to positioning the wheels toward the road shoulder, you can also take another approach. Chocking the wheels with wooden blocks or bricks is one such method. The function of this method is the same as the previous method, which is to prevent the car from rolling backward slowly.

Where Should the Car Be Parked?

Ideally, a car should be parked in a flat area. Such as a home garage or office parking area. Besides on an incline, as much as possible, the car should not be parked on concave ground or in parallel parking spaces.

Parking on concave ground will make the car vulnerable to water pooling. Meanwhile, parallel parking spaces will make it difficult for you to park and retrieve the car.
