Understanding the causes of bulging car tires and how to address them is essential for every car owner. This is because a bulging tire is a problem that needs to be watched out for, as it can explode at any time. This condition certainly poses a significant threat to the safety of the driver and passengers during travel. So what are the causes? The following discussion will elaborate on this.

Causes of Bulging Car Tires

There are several factors that cause car tires to bulge that you need to know. Here are the complete causes.

1. Incorrect air pressure

Incorrect air pressure in car tires is the main cause of bulging tires. Each tire has a different standard air pressure according to the manufacturer and the type of tire used. To find out the required air pressure for your car tires, you can check the sidewall area of the tire. Usually, this area is marked with Psi (Pound per square inch). This code is the unit of measurement for the air pressure needed by the tire.

Insufficient air pressure can cause bulging because the tire cannot withstand the pressure from the car body when passing over the road. As a result, the tire becomes less flexible when in use. Additionally, the tire surface wears out faster due to increased friction between the tire surface and the road.

On the other hand, excessive air pressure makes the tire prone to bulging because there is too much air pressure inside the tire. Especially in hot weather, the pressure inside the tire can increase, causing the bulge to grow larger. This condition can make the tire surface more susceptible to punctures from sharp objects, leading to tire blowouts or leaks.

2. Frequently encountering sharp objects

Potholes or damaged roads often cause the tire surface to be scratched by sharp objects like gravel. This condition can lead to the tire surface bulging over time.

3. Tire deformation (change in tire shape)

Potholes or damaged roads can cause tire deformation (change in tire shape). This deformation occurs when the tire surface comes into contact with sharp objects, causing the tire surface to become bald.

4. Dead car suspension

The last cause is due to a dead car suspension. As is known, the car suspension is a shock absorber component when the car passes over damaged or bumpy roads. If this component fails, the tire's performance will become heavier due to the greater pressure received.

How to Fix Bulging Car Tires

To prevent car tires from bulging, you need to implement the following methods.

1. Inflate tires according to the recommended tire standards

Every car tire has a different standard air pressure. To prevent bulging, you need to inflate the tires accordingly. For hatchback, sedan, and city car, the standard air pressure is 30-33 Psi. For MPVs, it is 33-36 Psi, and for SUVs, it is 35-40 Psi.

2. Avoid frequently driving on damaged roads

To prevent bulging tires, you should avoid damaged roads. Do not frequently drive over those damaged and pothole-ridden roads.

3. Avoid overload

To prevent tires from bulging easily, you need to be wise in carrying luggage. An overloaded car can cause the suspension and tires to wear out quickly. Ensure that the load you carry does not exceed your vehicle's carrying capacity.

4. Perform routine maintenance

Lastly, you need to regularly check and maintain the condition of your tires. Make sure to inflate the tire pressure according to recommendations, and immediately replace the tire if the surface is bald or if the tire is over 3 years old. Don't forget to replace it at an official Daihatsu workshop to ensure that the tire installation is done by experts and that the quality of the tires used meets standards.
