Have you ever found oil droplets under a car that just won't stop leaking? This condition can occur due to several factors, one of which is a leak in the power steering oil.

Before repairing or replacing it with a new one, it is advisable to identify the causes of the leaking power steering oil and how to address it.

1. Leak in the Steering Rack Seal

A leak in the steering rack seal is one of the causes of oil spots appearing along the road pavement.

The seal itself plays a role in preventing brake fluid leaks in the power steering shaft. If the seal experiences even a slight crack, it is not surprising that oil will leak.

When parked, the possibility of a leak in the seal may not be very noticeable, but it will be a different story when the vehicle is being driven.

This is because the leak may become more apparent, as the steering rack will be flooded with brake fluid under significantly higher pressure than before.

To confirm the leak, it is best to check by starting the engine and then turning the steering wheel from right to left. This method is used to ensure the cause of the leaking power steering oil and how to address it if a leak is found.

If oil droplets are found dripping onto the pavement when the steering wheel is turned, it is a sign that the power rack seal is leaking.

Replacing one power steering set is the best solution to resolve this issue. Immediately take your beloved vehicle to the nearest authorized workshop for proper maintenance.

This way, the risk of further damage can be minimized as much as possible.

2. Cracked or Burst Hose

A power steering hose that has been exposed to too much engine heat or has aged can be one of the causes of damage.

A damaged power steering hose can be in the form of small cracks or bursts that cause oil to continue flowing and indicate a leak.

However, some vehicle owners may not realize the leak.

The signs of a leak may not be very noticeable as they appear as small oil droplets in a limited amount. However, upon closer inspection, you will realize that the small droplets found on the garage floor could indicate a leak.

Therefore, it is important to know the causes of leaking power steering oil and how to address it so that the vehicle receives early maintenance.

3. Loose or Detached Hose Clamp

You should know that the power steering hose is generally attached with a spring clamp or known as a screw clamp.

However, the clamp can become brittle over time, causing it to gradually loosen and fail to hold the hose securely to its channel. This is the reason why the oil in the power steering leaks.

In addition, the improper position of the clamp can also trigger a leak, so it needs to be fixed to restore its optimal performance.
