Has High Endurance, Here Are 5 Main Functions of the Cylinder Head
Every component in the engine plays an important role in its performance, including the cylinder head. The name head cylinder itself is adjusted to the position of the component which is located above the cylinder block as its body.
So what are the functions of the cylinder head? Instead of being curious, let's take a detailed look at the following review.
1. Lubricating Oil Reservoir
Inside the cylinder head, there are several important parts. One of them is a series of lubricating oil channels that function to flow the liquid to the parts of the engine that need it.
Thus, all valve components on the cylinder head can be well-lubricated and prevent wear on the valve mechanism. The presence of the cylinder head will also minimize friction to ensure smoother operation when the engine is running.
These channels are also connected to other components in the cylinder block present in the engine. The combination of the engine block and these oil channels in the function of the cylinder head will produce an engine that can operate optimally and accurately.
2. Circulating Coolant Reservoir Through Water Jacket
To keep the engine working optimally when used at certain speeds, the cylinder head component is needed. The engine must not be in an overheat condition as it will affect its performance.
This is what makes the cylinder head function as a place or channel for coolant to pass through the water jacket.
Cars that are used for a long time and at certain speeds usually have an increase in engine temperature due to the combustion process. Fortunately, there is coolant in the cylinder head with a water jacket.
This stabilizes the high temperature, thus avoiding overheating in the engine.

3. Inlet and Exhaust Channel Mounting
The next function of the cylinder head is to serve as the inlet (intake) and exhaust (outlet) channels. The intake channel itself serves as the entrance for air into the combustion chamber.
Meanwhile, the exhaust channel is used as a channel for expelling the waste products of combustion regulated by the exhaust valve. This way, the engine will work more efficiently.
4. Combustion Chamber for Air and Fuel Mixture
The combustion process occurs in the cylinder head. This component indeed has a combustion chamber to combine fuel and air so that the engine can operate well.
The shape of the combustion chamber in the cylinder head varies as it is adjusted to the characteristics of the engine. This serves to maximize the combustion process and the power produced.
5. Spark Plug Mounting
Used as a mounting seat for the spark plug or what is called spark plug. The spark plug is installed facing the combustion chamber and is very important for the combustion process.
With the spark plug, there will be no spark because the spark plug directly processes it in the combustion chamber. It cannot be denied that the cylinder head plays an important role in the performance of the car engine.
Various components inside the cylinder head will regulate the amount of fuel and air mixture that enters. In addition, this space also functions as a circulation place to prevent the engine from overheating when used.
