The difference between BPKB and STNK, here are their functions and how to create them!
BPKB and STNK are important documents obtained when purchasing a motor vehicle officially. Although these two documents are familiar to vehicle owners, not everyone understands the difference between BPKB and STNK.
In this article, we will discuss the fundamental differences between BPKB and STNK as well as the complete process of making them.
Differences Between BPKB and STNK
There are several differences between BPKB and STNK that you need to know. Here are the complete differences.
1. Definition
The first difference can be seen in terms of definition. BPKB stands for Buku Pemilik Kendaraan Bermotor. Quoting from the official police website, BPKB is a document issued by the Traffic Unit of the Police to show the official ownership of a motor vehicle. In terms of definition, BPKB serves as official proof of ownership of a motor vehicle.
On the other hand, STNK stands for Surat Tanda Nama Kendaraan. STNK itself functions as an official document that the motor vehicle has met legal requirements and can be used on the road.
2. Function
As explained above, BPKB functions as the legality of the vehicle owner. Meanwhile, STNK serves as the legality of the vehicle's operation on the road.
BPKB serves as proof of official ownership of a vehicle, encompassing complete information about the owner's identity, vehicle registration number, and technical details of the vehicle.
Conversely, STNK, or Surat Tanda Nomor Kendaraan, focuses on providing permission for vehicle use on public roads by including the registration number, validity period, and technical information of the vehicle.
Thus, BPKB emphasizes ownership, while STNK provides official permission to operate on public roads, and both complement each other to provide a complete picture of the status and legality of motor vehicles.
3. Information
The third difference can be seen in terms of the information contained within them. BPKB contains information about the official identity of the vehicle owner, including name, address, and other complete information about the vehicle. Meanwhile, on the STNK, the information provided is specific to the motor vehicle.
4. Form
As the name suggests, BPKB is shaped like a book. BPKB itself is divided into two types, namely old BPKB and new BPKB. The differences are as follows.
Old BPKB
- Old BPKB is usually blue in color
- Has 22 pages.
- The BPKB number is located at the top right corner of the BPKB.
- Uses letter codes (stamped) manually on the back of the BPKB number.
- The owner's data includes the name of the occupation.
New BPKB
- New BPKB is usually brownish-green in color
- The number of pages is fewer compared to the old BPKB, which is 10 pages.
- The BPKB number is located on the vertical right side of the page
- The back of the BPKB number does not use letter codes
- Uses KTP NIK as ownership identity
- For STNK, it usually comes in a long sheet form.
