Route to Bromo by Private Car

Bromo is one of the natural tourist areas in East Java that is widely chosen by both local and international tourists. This natural tourist area, which also offers cultural tourism such as the remnants of temples in its surroundings, can be visited by you using private vehicles like cars. Of course, you need to understand the route to Bromo by private car first to ensure a safe arrival at this East Java tourist destination.
In addition to understanding the route to Mount Bromo using a private car, the next thing you need to understand is your car's specifications. This is important because if your intention is to take the car across to the Bromo sand sea, then not all types of cars are strong enough to reach the Bromo sand sea without ending up "causing trouble."
Route Options to Bromo Using a Private Car
Actually, there are at least three routes available to reach the Bromo tourist area, namely via Pasuruan, Malang, or Probolinggo. Each of these routes has its positives and negatives. However, for driving with a car, it is more advisable to go through Probolinggo because the routes via Pasuruan and Malang are more extreme, although they do not take long.
However, if the driver is quite experienced, then trying the extreme route is actually permissible. Meanwhile, the route from Probolinggo is indeed farther but safer, especially for vehicles. The route to Bromo via Probolinggo is not too winding, making it generally safer.
In addition, there is now a Probolinggo toll road with an exit quite close to the Mount Bromo tourist area. Thus, you can directly drive your vehicle towards the Bromo tourist area or at least reach the Cemoro Lawang area for certain types of cars. The route through Probolinggo will pass through the residential area in Sukapura village.
After passing through Sukapura Village, you will find the first spot, which is the Bromo sand area if you choose to descend. However, of course, not all cars will be allowed to descend by the tourism management.
Considerations for Choosing a Private Car to Mount Bromo
For regular cars, it is actually fine to use them to Bromo, but they cannot exceed the Cemoro Lawang area. This is because, for the sand sea area, regular specification cars will not be strong enough and may end up getting stuck in the middle of the sand sea. The minimum specifications for a car intended to cross the sand sea are:
- Large car specifications such as Jeep, Trooper, Taft, Cherokee, and similar standard specifications
- Engine capacity ranging from 2200 cc to 2400 cc for greater power compared to cars with lower engine capacities
- Large tires with a rugged specification specifically used for off-road.
In fact, in the Bromo area itself, the management has provided around hundreds of Jeep units that can be rented by visitors. If your car is a private vehicle, the tourism management will stop you at a certain point on the way to the Bromo route. This is because not all types of cars are allowed to enter the Bromo area if they do not meet the specification standards.
Understand the pros and cons of each route to Bromo by private car mentioned above. Of course, you are advised to choose the safer route, even if it takes longer, which is through Probolinggo. You should also check the condition of your car to ensure it is suitable for long-distance travel. Meanwhile, for touring around the Bromo area itself, it is recommended to rent a Jeep available there for safety.
