Tips for Educating Girls in an Islamic Way
Tips for educating girls may be necessary, considering that girls and boys have different physical and psychological conditions. Girls are more sensitive than boys. And parents with daughters may need to be more patient with the spoiled nature of girls.
Educating girls in Islam is not much different from educating boys. Teaching monotheism, worship, and also understanding other religious knowledge is the same as with boys. The most striking difference is seen in the laws related to women.
Here are some tips for educating girls.
Teaching Monotheism
Monotheism is the first thing that should be taught, both to boys and girls. If a Muslim's monotheism is correct, then their religion will also be correct.
The way to teach monotheism can be by inviting the child to say and repeat the phrase “Laa ilaha illallah”. Encourage the child to say this phrase and explain its meaning. You can also engage the child in a dialogue about who created humans and everything else. Guide the child to understand that only Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala is worthy of worship and is the creator of the entire universe.
When the child asks for something, you can also guide them to pray instead of directly asking their parents. This is to train the child to depend only on Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala.
Teaching Fiqh Related to Women
Physically, women are different from men. Therefore, in Islam, there are specific laws for women, such as covering the awrah and laws regarding menstruation. Teach girls to know the limits of their awrah in front of mahram and non-mahram.
Encourage girls to feel shy if their awrah is seen by someone who should not see it. You can also get girls used to wearing a hijab. Although they may occasionally take it off, that’s okay. Because young children are not burdened by the obligation to cover their awrah. However, as parents, you should introduce and get them accustomed to it from a young age, so that when they grow up, it becomes a habit.
You can also introduce to girls what menstruation is. Because this is an important matter that a girl will experience. Introduce the types of worship that a menstruating woman cannot perform and other fiqh related to menstruating women.
Instilling Good Morals
Both girls and boys should be accustomed to having good morals. Because good morals are a reflection of a believer. This good moral can first be applied to the parents themselves. Because children will imitate their parents. Thus, it is not surprising if someone says that a child is a reflection of their parents.
Good morals can start from speaking well. Not using harsh words or shouting at others. Always speaking honestly is also one form of good morals that should be instilled from a young age.
Introducing Household Chores
It cannot be denied that when they grow up, a girl will become a mother and a wife. One of the tips for educating girls is to introduce them to household chores. So that girls will have basic skills in managing a home.
From a young age, you can introduce girls to household tasks. The easiest thing is to get the child used to tidying up their toys or bed after use. This habit will also train the child to be responsible for things that concern themselves. You do not need to worry if the child cannot tidy up their toys or bed as cleanly as you hope.
If they need to play games, then provide educational games for girls. Just give praise when the child finishes their tasks. At some point, the child's ability to do household chores will continue to develop.
