Apa itu Uji Emisi? Ini Manfaat, Syarat dan Lokasinya!

With the worsening air pollution caused by vehicle smoke, the Indonesian government is promoting vehicle emission testing as a concrete step to reduce pollution levels. This policy aims to reduce exhaust emissions from motor vehicles, which are one of the main contributors to pollution, while also supporting better air quality for the community.

To better understand the importance of emission testing, the requirements that need to be met, and the locations that provide this service, let’s take a look at the following discussion!

What is Vehicle Emission Testing?

Vehicle emission testing is a testing procedure to measure the level of pollutants produced by a vehicle's engine during the combustion process. This test serves as a benchmark to see whether a vehicle meets the established emission standards. In this case, emission testing is not just a formality, but a real step to maintain environmental health and air quality.

The importance of this emission testing is regulated in the Governor of DKI Jakarta Regulation No. 66 of 2020 concerning Motor Vehicle Exhaust Emission Testing. For vehicle owners who do not comply with this regulation, the government imposes sanctions in the form of fines ranging from Rp250,000 to Rp500,000.

Why is Emission Testing Important? Here are the Benefits!

Regularly participating in emission testing has various benefits, including:

  • Preventing Engine Damage: Regular testing helps vehicle owners detect potential engine damage earlier.
  • Maintaining Air Quality: Emission testing reduces air pollution and supports a healthier environment.
  • Legal Compliance: Many major cities in Indonesia now require emission testing, such as Jakarta, which imposes sanctions on vehicles that do not undergo emission testing or do not meet the requirements.

Requirements for Cars to Pass Emission Testing

Each type of vehicle has different emission standards. Here are some requirements for a car to be declared passed emission testing:

  • Gasoline Cars: Vehicles manufactured before 2007 must have carbon monoxide (CO) levels below 3%, while cars produced from 2007 onwards must be below 1.5%.
  • Diesel Cars: Diesel vehicles weighing under 3.5 tons and produced after 2010 must have opacity (smoke thickness) levels not exceeding 40%.

Vehicle Emission Testing Procedure

Vehicles older than three years are required to undergo emission testing regularly. You can visit various locations that provide this service, ranging from official workshops to local Environmental Agency offices. Here is the basic procedure for vehicle emission testing:

  1. Installing the Measuring Device: Technicians will install a gas measuring device on the vehicle's exhaust. To obtain accurate results, the vehicle must be in a state where all electrical devices are turned off, such as the AC, radio, and lights.
  2. Measurement: The car's engine will be started for about 5-7 minutes to measure exhaust emissions such as Hydrocarbons (HC), Carbon Monoxide (CO), Carbon Dioxide (CO2), Nitrogen Oxides (NOx), and Oxygen (O2).
  3. Testing Results: The levels of exhaust gases will be recorded, and if they pass the emission standards, the vehicle owner will receive an emission testing pass certificate.

Cost of Vehicle Emission Testing

The cost of vehicle emission testing varies depending on the type of vehicle and the service location, but generally ranges from Rp150,000 to Rp200,000. For two-wheeled vehicles, the rates can be more affordable.

Emission testing is a preventive step that every vehicle owner must take to maintain air quality. Regular emission testing not only has a positive impact on the environment but also benefits vehicle owners. With more vehicles passing emission tests, it is hoped that air pollution levels can decrease, making the air healthier for all of us.

Conduct emission testing regularly, maintain your vehicle's condition, and be part of the environmental preservation efforts!
