5 Tips for Safe and Comfortable Homecoming by Car with Family!

It feels like the month of Ramadan has arrived, and there is a tradition that is inseparable from Indonesian society when fasting ends. That is the homecoming for Eid, some families have even prepared themselves well in advance. If you are traveling with children, there will certainly be a lot of supplies that need to be prepared. Here are some tips for traveling home with children using a private car.
The most important thing to prepare before the homecoming is to check the condition of the vehicle. Check all readiness and mandatory supplies in the vehicle such as warning triangles, jacks, and spare tires. Don’t forget to service and change the engine oil to ensure a comfortable ride on the road. Once the vehicle is ready, there are other things that need to be prepared well in advance by gradually gathering supplies for the trip with children from now on.
Safe and Comfortable Homecoming Tips
It may be a bit of a hassle, but during the Eid homecoming, everything will be easier because it has been well prepared. So, let’s take a look at some safe tips for traveling with children.
1. Provide Space for Children to Move and Place Children in the Back
Children need enough space to move even while traveling. Sedan-type cars are not recommended for long-distance homecoming. The cramped space makes it difficult for children to move freely. It is better to use SUV or MPV type cars, such as the All New Daihatsu Terios and All New Daihatsu Xenia. It will definitely be very comfortable for children because they have high headroom and spacious legroom, especially in the second row.
2. Prepare for Motion Sickness
Prepare medication for motion sickness and also provide plastic bags for vomiting in case the children get sick during the trip. Make sure the plastic bags are placed in easily accessible spots, such as behind the driver's seat or next to the door with a pocket.
3. Prioritize Bringing Supplies for the Little Ones
Bring essential items needed by children such as dry and wet tissues, water bottles, colored pencils or crayons, and playing cards to keep them entertained during the long homecoming trip. Increase the collection of enjoyable reading books and references for games that can be played during the Eid homecoming trip. You can also prepare a collection of children's songs or movies to keep them comfortable during the journey. Don’t forget your child's favorite toys!
4. Look for Comfortable Rest Area Locations
Stop driving every three to five hours to give them a chance to use the restroom or just to stretch their legs and relax their tense muscles. Don’t forget to provide them with healthy snacks to avoid feeling hungry during the trip. Avoid buying snacks during the journey because not only is their health not guaranteed, but you can also save travel costs by bringing food from home.
5. Equip the Vehicle with a First Aid Kit
A first aid kit is something that should not be overlooked during the Eid homecoming. Make sure it contains not only medications for adults. Also bring medications for children such as band-aids, thermometers, baby oil, fever reducers, and vitamins to keep the little ones healthy during the Eid homecoming trip.
So, always prepare well in advance, friends. May your journey be enjoyable and may you gather with family in your hometown.
