7 Tips for Applying for Jobs via Email Correctly and Attractively

Most companies have already conducted the recruitment process online. Not only due to the pandemic's impact, but the process of searching for employees is indeed more efficient when done via email and registration portals. Although there are still some jobs that can be applied for in person, applying for jobs via email is still quite popular.

Tips for applying for jobs via email are things to consider when sending a job application email. Usually, companies will start screening candidates from the emails sent before conducting an online interview. So, make sure to send your job application email properly. Let's take a look at 7 tips for correctly applying for jobs via email.

1. Enter the Email Address Correctly

Just like visiting a company to submit job application documents, the address you go to must be correct. The same goes for sending an email. If the email address typed is wrong or just one letter off, it's like dialing the wrong phone number. So, make sure you have entered the email address correctly.

Additional tip: the email address can be typed after writing the content. This can be done to prevent the email from being sent accidentally when you hit the send button.

2. Use the Email Subject to Simplify

Whenever there is a job vacancy, remember that there are also many job applicants. Not to mention, there may be more than one job position needed. Therefore, it is important to include the position applied for in the subject line. Just write the position applied for along with your full name, for example: Job Application Cashier – Andi Riandi.

3. Write a Concise Email Body

The content of the job application email should not be too verbose. Some points that can be included in the email body are as follows.

- Source of job application information

- Position applied for

- Last work experience

- Skills for the position applied for, for example: honest, responsible, willing to learn

4. Use Proper Language

The language used when sending a job application email can be written in either Indonesian or English. If the job applied for requires English language skills, it is better to write the application in English as proof of proficiency. The language used does not always have to be formal, but it must be polite and professional.

5. Attach a Curriculum Vitae (CV)

Even though you have mentioned work experience, just summarize it briefly. A complete job description can be mentioned in the curriculum vitae (CV). So, prepare a CV that can be saved in *pdf format with a file size that is not too large, preferably no more than 5 MB. If your application email is neat and clear, usually the recruiter will look at this attachment.

6. Mention Contact Information

Additionally, also mention your preferred method of contact if the company wants to continue the recruitment process. This can be briefly stated in the closing part of the email, as an example.

“If my skills and experience match the position needed, I can be contacted via WhatsApp at 082123456789.”

It doesn't always have to be through WhatsApp; also mention if you prefer to be called directly or contacted via email. This way, both the company and the candidate are not disturbed.

7. Say Thank You

Regardless of whether the job application sent via email is accepted or not, don't forget to say thank you. At the very least, the company has learned about the capabilities of the candidate who wants to join the company. It is not uncommon for candidates to be contacted again for different positions on another occasion.
