Has your car ever suddenly stalled due to overheating engine? If you have experienced this, then you need to fix the engine fan cooling component (radiator fan). Here are some ways to fix an automatic radiator fan that is dead and often problematic.

How to Fix a Dead Automatic Radiator Fan

Have you ever wondered what the connection is between engine overheating and the radiator fan? Essentially, the radiator fan is a car component that functions to cool the air temperature around the radiator area to keep it cool.

So, when does the car's radiator fan spin and turn on? The radiator fan will turn on under two conditions: when the engine temperature is hot, and when the AC is turned on. If it cannot turn on under these two conditions, then it can be assured that there is a problem with this component.

What are the consequences of a dead radiator fan? If this component is damaged or dead, then the temperature within the engine accumulates and cannot escape. As a result, the car's temperature rises sharply and causes overheating. To fix a dead radiator fan, you can pay attention to the following methods:

1. Turn Off the Car Engine and Let It Cool

When you first discover the problem that the radiator fan is damaged and not spinning when the car is newly used, it is best to turn off your car again.

Turn the ignition key to off and let the car sit for 40 to 60 minutes to stabilize the car's temperature. To speed up the cooling of the engine temperature, you can open the car hood.

2. Remove the Radiator Fan Component

In addition to turning off the car engine, another way to fix the automatic radiator fan that has problems is to remove all screws and gently pull the fan from the radiator.

3. Clean the Radiator Fan Component

What are the causes of a car radiator fan not spinning? A problematic radiator fan is usually caused by this component being rarely cleaned, leading to dirt buildup.

As a result, dirt gets stuck in the gaps of the fan. You can clean this component by wiping the dirty areas. You can use an air compressor to remove dirt that clings to the small parts of the fan that are hard to reach.

4. Repair the Motor Relay Performance

To determine if the radiator fan is not functioning, you can check the motor relay to see if it is working properly or not.

Then, to fix the automatic radiator fan, you can use an avometer to check the relay's performance. If the relay can still spin, then the problem lies in another part.

5. Repair with Electric Current from the Battery

The next way to fix a damaged automatic radiator fan is to test the electric current of the radiator fan using the battery.

Make sure your car battery is not dead or damaged. Connect the battery cable to the fan motor or connect the jumper socket of the radiator fan to the fuse box. If the fan can spin, then the electrical circuit is not problematic.

6. Repair the Fan Fuse

The next step is to check the fuse to see if there is a short circuit or not. Because the fuse functions as a connector and breaker of the electric current. If there is a short circuit, then the radiator fan cannot turn on automatically. It is advisable to replace the damaged fuse with a new one.

7. Repair the Engine and Radiator Fan

For those of you using a non-original or aftermarket radiator fan. Usually, the components will easily crack, break, or even melt. This can cause noise in the engine hood area.

If that noise occurs, immediately check the condition of the radiator fan. Replace it with a new component; if the fan still spins heavily, then the problem lies in other components.

8. Replace the Carbon Brush with a New One

The next way to fix the automatic radiator fan is to first check the carbon brush for any damage. If the carbon brush is damaged, replace it with a new one.

Well, those are some ways to fix a dead automatic radiator fan that has become non-functional that you can follow. Usually, the automatic radiator fan component has problems due to improper socket installation, a broken component, and a non-functional fan motor.

If you find that your automatic radiator fan component is dead, it is best to repair it immediately. If you are not skilled in fixing it, you can contact the nearest Daihatsu dealer or an official workshop to address your car's issues.
