How the Car Cooling System Works and Its Functions

Cara Kerja Sistem Pendingin Mobil dan Fungsinya

You must have wondered why the temperature of the car remains stable even when used for a long time? This can happen because of the car's cooling system. The way the car's cooling system works will function when the engine temperature starts to rise to prevent overheating. To help you understand how this system works and its function, you need to pay attention to the following review.

How the Car Cooling System Works

The car cooling system actually works by removing heat from the engine to keep the engine temperature stable. The heat cannot escape properly because the car engine is inside a closed hood. To keep the temperature stable, a component of the car cooling system is needed, which is the radiator.

If examined in depth, the way the car cooling system works is divided into three stages. Here are the complete stages.

1. When the engine temperature is cold

When you just start the car engine, the engine temperature does not immediately become hot. You still need some time for the engine temperature to rise.

When the engine temperature is cold, the heat from the car will not be channeled to the radiator. This happens because the thermostat is still closed. As you know, the thermostat will only open when the engine temperature reaches 80 degrees Celsius.

2. When the engine temperature reaches 80 degrees Celsius

When the engine heat reaches 80 degrees Celsius or more, the thermostat will automatically open. This condition causes the coolant to flow to the radiator. In this condition, the cooling fan will not be active because the engine temperature is still considered not hot enough.

3. When the engine temperature is above 90 degrees Celsius

When the temperature inside the engine is above 90 degrees Celsius, the cooling fan will automatically work. The speed of the cooling fan depends on the RPM speed.

If the RPM rate is high, the cooling fan will spin faster. It is in this condition that the car cooling system works optimally. If the engine temperature returns to 90 or 80 degrees Celsius, the cooling fan will automatically stop spinning.

Functions of the Car Cooling System

After you understand how the car cooling system works, you need to know its functions. Here are the complete functions.

1. Absorbing heat inside the engine

The car cooling system functions as an absorber of the heat inside the engine. This heat is then converted into kinetic energy and absorbed so that the car does not experience overheating. As you know, overheating can damage engine components and the car's electrical system. It can even cause the car to catch fire.

2. Keeping the engine at operating temperature

The car cooling system can also maintain the engine's condition to keep it at the operating temperature. As you previously know, the engine's operating temperature is in the range of 80 to 90 degrees Celsius. This temperature will optimize engine performance and extend the lifespan of engine components.

3. Accelerating the process of reaching the engine's operating temperature

In addition to these two functions, the car cooling system also functions to accelerate the process of reaching the engine's operating temperature (above 90 degrees Celsius). Thus, engine performance will improve, and the car's acceleration will also increase.

Considering its important functions, you need to check the engine cooling system regularly. If any problems occur, visit the nearest Daihatsu dealer so that your car does not overheat.
