Have you ever had problems with your car's dynamo ampere? Before deciding to fix it, it's best to check it first. If you're confused about how to check the car's dynamo ampere and how to fix it, read this post until the end.

It is important to know that some car devices such as car starters, lights, and other electrical devices require a flow of electrical energy to function.

This electrical energy is obtained from the dynamo ampere, which serves as a power supply when the car's engine is running. Therefore, it is essential for car owners to regularly perform checks.

How to Check the Car Dynamo Ampere

Usually, checking the dynamo ampere is done at the workshop periodically as a precaution against massive car damage.

However, it is also good for you to understand how to check the dynamo ampere charging independently, especially in emergencies like a sudden car shutdown.

1. Test Magnetism

The first step you need to take is to test the magnetism on the pulley and the body of the dynamo. This testing process is done to determine if there are any broken wires or to check the condition of the rotor and stator.

The method of testing the magnetism of the dynamo ampere is relatively easy. First, prepare a wrench or screwdriver. Then open the hood, and turn the ignition key on the dynamo ampere to the ON position. Next, attach the wrench or screwdriver to the rotating wheel or dynamo pulley

If the wrench or screwdriver is attracted when attached, it means the magnet power of the dynamo or field coil is still functioning well.

If it is not attracted, it is possible that the winding wire on the dynamo is broken or the carbon brush is worn out. Don't forget to also check the stator coil to see if it still has magnetic power by attaching the screwdriver when the car is running.

2. Check Voltage and Current of the Dynamo Ampere

The next step, you can check the voltage and current of the dynamo ampere using just a wrench or a 10mm ring wrench.

This checking process aims to determine whether the IC regulator or cut-out system is still functioning properly.

First, open the hood and start the car first so that the electrical current can be detected properly. After that, loosen the battery terminal bolt, especially the positive terminal, then remove the battery terminal cable.

If the car suddenly dies, it can be concluded that the dynamo ampere is damaged. Conversely, if it remains on, it means the dynamo ampere is in good condition.

Avoid repeatedly testing the charging system as it can damage the IC regulator, and always be careful when testing to avoid electric shock.

Signs of a Damaged Car Dynamo Ampere

What causes the dynamo ampere not to charge? Here are some signs of a weak dynamo ampere that needs to be replaced.

  1. The intensity of the car's spotlight is reduced or dim.
  2. The indicator light on the dashboard is always on even though the car battery is still normal.
  3. The energy supply to the battery is less than optimal.
  4. A squeaking sound occurs in the engine when the car is running.
  5. A burning rubber smell is detected in the engine.
  6. The battery drains faster or is easily depleted.
  7. The car stalls suddenly.

How to Repair a Damaged Dynamo Ampere

Can the dynamo ampere be repaired? Yes, of course, it can. Repairing the dynamo ampere is quite easy; you just need to follow the 3 steps below:

1. Check the Physical Parts of the Dynamo Ampere

The first step is to check the bearing by rotating the puller with a dynamo tester or manually using your hand.

Dismantle each component and clean them thoroughly, including the slip ring and brush. After finishing, perform inspection and measurement on the dynamo ampere.

Reassemble the components that have been disassembled as before, ensuring they are positioned correctly and not loose, and that there are no leaks on the slip ring. Then test the dynamo ampere again by starting the car engine or using a dynamo tester.

2. Replace with New Components

You are advised to replace it with new components if the dynamo components are damaged or no longer suitable. The price of dynamo ampere for cars varies greatly. You can adjust it according to your budget and your car's needs.

3. Service the Car Regularly and Periodically

Don't forget to always service your car regularly and periodically at an official workshop or the nearest Daihatsu dealer to know all the problematic car components. You can replace damaged spare parts using original products from Daihatsu.
