Grease is generally applied to the positive terminal of conventional or wet car batteries. The main purpose is to prevent the formation of crust or mold on the positive terminal.
There are many factors that can cause this disturbing mold to appear, such as humidity, oxidation of the battery water which is the electrolyte fluid, excessive heat at the positive pole of the battery, loose clamps on both poles of the battery, or due to excessive battery water volume.
Mold on car batteries is usually white and accumulates in the area of the battery head. The application of grease is known to prevent the appearance of this mold.
Although beneficial, the application of grease to the positive terminal of the battery should not be excessive. Excessive grease application can actually risk disrupting the flow of electric current from the battery when the car engine is started.
