Every vehicle is equipped with a fuel indicator located at the front of the driver. This fuel indicator helps the driver estimate the right time to refuel, so the vehicle remains energized to speed on the roads. But what if the car's fuel indicator scheme does not function properly?
Understanding What a Fuel Indicator Is
As the name suggests, this technology helps drivers obtain information regarding the remaining fuel in the vehicle's gas tank.
The needle pointing to the letter F (fuel) indicates that the gas tank is still full, while the needle at the letter E (empty) signals that you need to refuel as soon as possible.
When the gas tank has been refilled, the needle will automatically show a change according to the amount of fuel added.
But what if the needle does not move from its original position, even after you have completed a long journey? This condition of the car's fuel indicator scheme indicates a problem with the engine.
Factors Causing the Fuel Indicator to Not Move
1. Fuel is Empty
The main reason why the indicator needle does not move is that the fuel has completely run out. In this condition, it is understandable that the needle does not move from its original position.
However, do not feel relieved just yet, as this condition indicates that the vehicle's tank must be refilled to avoid breaking down in the middle of the journey.

2. Fuel Indicator is Damaged
The second cause is that the indicator's battery is weak or damaged. This is because the fuel indicator machine uses DC current from the vehicle's battery. If the battery is damaged, it is not surprising if the indicator needle shows no movement at all.
3. Broken Wiring
When the wiring connection leading to the indicator needle is damaged, it is understandable that this machine does not function as it should. To determine the exact condition, take it to the nearest official service center for assistance.

4. Damaged Float Component
The float component located inside the car's dashboard is one of the reasons why the needle may not move at all. There is no need to take it to a service center first, as this inspection can be done independently without assistance from others.
Simply disconnect the cable socket connected to the float, then connect the socket with the cable. If the needle functions again as before, it can be confirmed that the float is damaged.
What about the opposite condition? When the indicator needle remains unchanged, it does not necessarily mean the float is damaged. To ensure the damage, it is advisable to use an AVO meter as part of the inspection.
You should also not prematurely conclude that the float is damaged when encountering this problem, as there may be other possibilities causing the fuel indicator needle to not function optimally.
Ensure this issue by removing the float from the tank, then check its condition using an AVO meter.
