The Ease of Maintaining Conventional Batteries
JAKARTA, JANUARY 2025, A battery generally has a lifespan of about 1.5 to 2 years for normal use. However, this lifespan can be shorter or longer depending on how it is treated.
Especially the lifespan of a conventional or wet car battery. If not maintained, it usually lasts shorter than a dry battery (Maintenance Free).
However, Daihatsu friends need not worry about this. Because there are several other ways that can be applied to extend the lifespan of a car battery. Here are some simple tricks.
Do Not Clog the Battery Vent Holes
The first is to maintain the physical cleanliness of the battery, especially from dirt buildup. Dirt that accumulates on the battery usually comes from external factors or can be from the battery itself.
"For example, water splashes or mud from under the car landing on the battery cap that has ventilation holes. If the holes are clogged with dirt, it is highly likely that the battery cells can be damaged, leading to swelling," explained Kelik, head of the Fast Pancoran workshop in South Jakarta, a specialist in batteries and suspension.
Avoid Excess Battery Water Volume
Due to laziness in frequently checking the battery water, the water volume is usually filled beyond the specified limit to avoid drying out. However, this method is risky. Overfilling the battery water can create crust on the battery terminals, especially the positive terminal. As a result, the crust on the battery terminals can reduce the supply of electric current, leading to insufficient charge.
Secure the Battery to Avoid Shocks
Ensure that the battery in your Daihatsu car does not receive excessive shocks while the vehicle is in use. Because strong shocks to the car battery can affect the battery cells. The harder the shock, the more it damages the battery cells.
To minimize shocks to the car battery, it is best to secure the battery tightly. This battery holder is shaped like a metal plate, which is tightened with two long nuts on the side.
