A spare tire is a type of tire that is usually provided by the manufacturer as a backup tire for every car sold.

This tire can be used when the car experiences several issues such as a flat tire, a torn tire during travel, or other emergencies. Below, we will discuss in detail some tips for using a spare tire and how to replace it.

How to Properly Use a Spare Tire

It is important to note that if you observe closely, the spare tire is usually smaller in size than the original tire provided by the car manufacturer.

Additionally, the spare tire is also lighter because its thickness is thinner than that of the original or normal car tire.

Typically, the spare tire is stored in the trunk. However, for certain car models, some store it underneath the car.

The design of the smaller spare tire is based on considerations for efficient space-saving in the trunk. Here are the correct ways to use a spare tire.

1. Check the Spare Tire to be Installed

When a normal tire gets damaged during travel, you can certainly use the spare tire as a replacement.

However, the use of a spare tire needs to be considered because it has different wear and tread compared to other normal tires.

You should not use it continuously to replace the function of a normal tire; you must eventually replace the spare tire with a new normal tire that meets your car's specifications.

2. Avoid Speeding While Driving

If you are using a spare tire while driving, it is best to avoid driving at high speeds or over 80 km per hour.

3. Drive on the Left Side

Make sure you drive on the left side, and if you are on a one-way street, ensure you are in the emergency lane so that other drivers can pass.

Turn on the hazard lights when driving at night to signal to other drivers that you are driving abnormally.

4. Do Not Drive Too Far

When using a spare tire, make sure to limit the distance traveled to avoid damaging other car components such as gears and clutch plates due to pressure from the spare tire.

The use of a spare tire can also affect cornering, braking, traction control, and electronic stability control.

How to Properly Replace a Car Spare Tire
