A flat tire can happen at any time. So, how do you patch a tubeless tire? The steps are very easy. However, you must know how to handle a flat tire that comes unexpectedly, especially in urban areas where old nails are often found on the roadside.

You don't need to worry or panic about your flat tire. Especially if your tire is a typical tubeless tire, changing a tire and patching it is very easy and can be done independently.

Types of Flat Tire Cases

There are several types of flat tires. The first type is the sudden one that causes the tire to deflate quickly.

If this happens, the first step to take when patching the tire is to immediately find a place to pull over or look for the nearest tire repair shop.

The second type of leak is usually referred to as a slow leak. This type of leak is often unnoticed. Suddenly, in the morning, you realize that the air in your tire has run out.

For slow leak cases, you can be more prepared to patch the tubeless tire yourself because you usually have many tools at home, such as a screwdriver, tank, jack, tubeless kit, and the like.

How to Patch a Tubeless Tire

For those of you reading this article and experiencing a flat tire without preparation, you should look for the nearest workshop.

The following steps to patch a tubeless tire require some preparations that you may not have made.

1. Prepare the Tools

There are several tools you need to prepare for the tubeless tire patching process, including:

  • Jack,
  • Portable compressor,
  • Tank,
  • Tubeless kit,
  • Brush,
  • Container with soapy water,
  • and tire pressure testing tool.

The tubeless kit on the market is usually sold for around 17 thousand rupiah. There are also more expensive options depending on the brand and quality.

2. Find the Leak Point

The next step is to find the leak point. In this step, you need to jack up your car and check if there are any nails stuck in your tire. You need to search carefully as they can sometimes be hard to see.

If you have found the leak point, you can apply soapy water to the area of the leak. The bubbles from the soapy water indicate that air is indeed leaking from there.

3. Clean the Leaking Tire Area

To facilitate the patching process, you can use the screwdriver included in the tubeless kit. Puncture the leaking part of the tire with that tool until the hole is neat. The goal is, of course, to ensure that the tubeless patch adheres well.

4. The Tubeless Patching Process

Once the hole is neat, take the rubber from the tubeless kit and insert it into the hole of the screwdriver that has a hole near the tip.

Pull the rubber until the screwdriver hole is in the middle of the tubeless rubber. Then add the glue from the tubeless kit to the rubber so that the patch adheres strongly.

Insert the screwdriver with the attached tubeless rubber into the leaking tire hole. Pull quickly so that the rubber stays in the tire and the screwdriver can come out of the hole without leaving any rubber behind.

Cut the remaining rubber outside the tire to tidy up the appearance of the tire. Some people prefer to leave the rubber as is, and it will tidy itself up when it gets scratched on the road.

5. Check for Air Leaks

Inflate the tire with the portable compressor you have prepared. Fill it to the recommended pressure for the tire.

Check the patched area again by applying soapy water to that area. If no bubbles appear, it means your patch is secure.

Wait a moment, then check the tire pressure again with the tire pressure checking tool. Is the pressure still the same or has it decreased significantly? Normally, if the patch is correct, the pressure will remain the same and not decrease.

That is how to properly patch a tubeless tire independently. If you find it difficult to do it yourself, you can take your car to the nearest Daihatsu workshop for the tubeless tire patching process.

Additionally, the advantage of going to a workshop is that you can also check your car thoroughly to gain insights into optimal vehicle performance.
