Tires are the components of a car that come into direct contact with the road. The condition of the tires greatly affects the driving experience. So, never underestimate the function of tires, friends. Often, accidents start from neglecting this component before driving.

There are four indicators you can check to ensure whether the tires are still safe to use. If any one of them is met, it’s time for you to replace the tires. Want to know the four indicators? Check the following information:

1. Check TWI

TWI stands for tread wear indicator. It appears as a triangular symbol on the side of the tire pointing towards the rubber protruding between the tire treads. If that part is level with the tire tread, there’s no negotiation. You must replace the tire immediately for safety on the road.

2. There Are Bulges

With use, bulges can appear in the tire sidewall. This means the tire has undergone a change in shape. If left unchecked, driving comfort will be disturbed. The car will feel wobbly and vibrate while moving.

What causes bulges? Usually, it’s due to a broken or loose internal component in that area, causing the tire wall to weaken and no longer grip the road properly. This can be caused by impacts or using tires that are not suitable for the road conditions. Bulging tires cannot be repaired, friends. So, you must replace them with new ones immediately.

3. Cracks

Tires can crack due to many factors. For example, poor tire quality or weather effects. If left unattended, it may cause leaks and could burst at any time. Especially if there are many visible cracks. To avoid any unwanted incidents, it’s better to use new tires immediately.

4. Tire Age

Like other products, tires also have a lifespan. You can see this from the code printed on the side of the tire. For example, the number 2616, the first two digits indicate the week and the last two digits indicate the year. So from that example, the tire was produced in the 13th week of the year 2016.

If the tires you are using have reached 6 years of age from the production date, it’s time to replace them, as the rubber condition has deteriorated. If the car is regularly used under normal conditions, the mileage that serves as a benchmark for replacing tires is usually around 40,000 km.

Now you know, friends, what indicators to pay attention to when replacing tires. Rather than facing problems on the road, it’s best to take the time to check the tires before driving. Remember, safety first!
